Peanut butter pro tip:

If you buy the stuff that needs significant stirring before first use, skim some of the oil off right after you open the jar. Save and refrigerate the oil. Stir peanut butter well. When you get to the bottom third of the jar, when the contents are getting dry and crumbly, add some of oil back in.

Or you could do what I do. Dump the entire jar in to a small mixing bowl, stir it well and put it back in the jar. If you mix it well the oil will stay mixed in unless it is stored for a long period of time. I don't have that problem though. I usually go through a jar in a few weeks.

No with an exception, I do if it already has the jelly in it.

loveand bass and blastoff99 above. I use butter so seldomly, I have to refrigerate it.
I did see those after I posted. I was just talking about that with a friend the other day. My great grand mother growing up never refrigerated butter and I always thought you should, but i never died when she used to make me "sugar bread" with it all the time.

sugar bread is delicious, butter a slice of bread then put sugar on it.. I may have to post that recipe in the pastry thread.

We make our own peanut butter, almond butter and cashew butter in a Vitamix. It is a pain to clean it afterwards so we make a smoothie. The nut butter gives the smoothie a nice flavor and adds protein. It also makes it easier to clean the Vitamix.
We don't refrigerate our nut butters. I have never seen the oil separate like it does with the natural brands you get at the store.
