do you stick with one brand?

Played a BUNCH of brands since the late 60s....endorsed a couple of them during my career....now I play (2) Fender and Rickenbacker.

Over the course of many years, I found that these two brands work for me.

And, as in everything talkbass - IMO and YMMV....

every bass that i have bought has been ibanez. i dont go into the shop wanting a ibanez spcefically it just happens. ive tried all of the other brands and my pick is always been that ibanez! is there something wrong with me?

if your obsessed with ibanez then whats up with the traben in your name?

I don't favor a brand but I favor a shape - that of a J. I have a fender MIA J, two Lakland's (a 44-60 fretless and a 55-60), my Guild Pilot is an unadersized, exaggerated J, so that makes 4 J body styles out of my 7 basses (and 1 P).

Go ahead and start that thread. I think it sounds like an interesting topic of discussion.

For what it's worth, I think the notion of hating a meaningless label on a headstock is as stupid as worshiping a meaningless label on a headstock. Anyone will like some brands more than others but the only reason to entirely rule out any brand just for the sake of ruling it out is petty prejudice.

After owning many different brands over the years, I never thought I'd become a "one brand guy"...but I am currently with no regrets. I love my four more than anything else I've had. At some point, I'll probably pick up something else...but no rush.

Too much Fender! Plus, several Jazzish basses that I stumbled over in the 'used' section, and couldn't put down.

I own/have owned Warwick, Peavey, ESP, BC rich, Ibanez, Dean, Epiphone, Jackson, Carlo Robelli Upright, and Rickenbacker. All of these basses I bought for their individual tone and look. The fact that you stick with Ibby just proves that is what you like and more power to you.

Life/Bass is full of options... sticking to vanilla is great... but if you want to try something more awesome try French Vanilla... just saying that I used to be all about Ibanez Ibanez Ibanez... but I opened my mind (and wallet) and tried a few more... even brands I had a "bias" against without playing...

lol yea my first bass was given to me at 13. it was a traben array and im too lazy to change my email address. either way the only basses iv'e bought are ibanezes.

Paradoxically, it's be easier to get that endorsement deal if you stuck with a single brand.

This isn't like the 60's where you were dedicated to only one brand of vehicle. It's foolish to exclude all other brands of bass guitars.

Surprisingly, I've never owned more than one bass of a brand. I've owned an LTD, SX, schecter, epiphone, dean, peavey, and an ibanez. And I still haven't owned a squier or a fender. Something must be wrong with me.

I'm pretty brand loyal.

Currently I have two ESP LTD's. One is fretted and one is fretless.

I have two Martin ABG's. Each is made from different materials.

Both of my bass amps are Carvin.

All of my basses and guitars have DR strings and Onori straps with Dunlop straplocks.

The bottom line is to buy the gear that suits your needs. The manufacturers I have chosen provide products that work for me at a price point I'm comfortable with.

If a company makes something that exceeds my expectations, I like to reward them with repeat business.
