Do you think the Longhorn design is cool?

If nothing else, the fret access potential makes me drool. If Danelectro made a 24x5 longhorn, I'd be all over it.

I saw one of these as a child in the 80s and fell in love with it. Since then I have bought and sold 3 Dano Longhorns. On my short bucket list is a Jerry Jones - but I may do another Dano - I just picked up a U2 (6 string treble bass) and I love it.

I was also thinking of picking up a short horn bass next, so maybe I like Dano thing more than the longhorn style specifically.

Idk if this was answered but the ones w/ F holes were "Coral" basses? I remember a place in Berkeley had a bunch of these bodies left and I fantasized about having them do a fretless for me, years ago. They do look sweet!

At the time of its release it was cool. All it needed was some MacTac plastered over it to really catch the groove of the era. Unfortunately, the current owner's political views put me off of them.

i voted "yes" --- it's a cool design (including bruce's ampeg example).

but the necks don't work for me. even if they were fretless = the necks don't work for me. it's personal.

It's a very functional design. Many times I have been in the studio and the producer will pick the Longhorn over the P bass. Great tone and super easy to play.

Yep, a 1937 Philco. I have it fitted with a GK 15" speaker, and it's my main testing cabinet here in my shop. It's become a mascot, and also serves as the backdrop when photographing any basses I build or restore.

I have several basses. Precision AVRI, 1966 JAZZ, 1967 EB-0, Zemaitis, to name a few. I play my Longhorn exclusively . Light, a dream to play and FANTASTIC tone. Very versatile. And it fits perfectly in a old school Strat case.

The shape of the bass is super-cool, in my opinion. Additionally, I like how compact and lightweight they are. And the Danelectro finishes are especially sweet.

But...

I'm not crazy about the stock Danny LH tone. If I ever picked up another (not likely as I have a couple of short-scales that are way slicker), I'd have to throw in new pickups... maybe even a preamp.

The longhorn is pretty far down on my list - I'd probably never find a good reason to play one myself. However, I can't deny the fact that it is cool.

I love Danos but I've never liked the Longhorn.
