Do you use fEARful?

FWIW, my true 3-way 15/6/1 makes my Eden D210XST sound like an AM radio. The fEARful has a flatter, more extended, response and better off-axis response. The Eden does have a certain something to the sound, but it is not in the same category in terms of quality.

Dude, go for it. You're going to love it... despite what the "Debbie Downers" say.

Unfortunately TB is not always a welcoming place for fEARful players (my opinion), but Greenboy's forum has alot of very satisfied guys who are very welcoming of questions and give alot of support. Its one of the many benefits of fEARful... it comes along with a great community of bassists.

And heck there are over a 1000 of us over there so I think its fair to say that fEARful IS something at least worth checking out.

Well, I tried it and did not like it, and to guarantee that the OP will " love it ", does a disservice to him. If that makes me a " Debbie Downer " ( thanks for the insult ), then so be it. He may like a fEARful, he may not. Why not let him decide ?

Easy killer...

Nothing about Torin's post was directed at you, AND if you take the time to read the posts in this thread about the OP's goals and wants you might come to understand that he is looking for a DIY project that produces a cab that produces a cab that is fairly tonally even.

Doesnt that sound like a fEARful to you? I mean come on, the OP is interested enough to start a poll about the cabs, so its not like this suggestion is from out in left field.

Further more if you took a little more time to read the thread you might understand that the topic of him trying one before he makes his decision has come up about 6 times. It has been noted by the OP, that isnt possible at this time for him, and he is still interested in doing the build. So maybe for one second lets assume the OP does have some semblance of knowledge about what gear he should be researching.

As far as you taking offense to the Debbie downer comment, I just dont see it. I wouldnt peg your for a Debbie downer, or a negative Nancy, maybe closer to a sullen Sally but I'm not sure thats right either.

In any case, I dont think Torin ment it to be an insult. More as a descriptive noun describing most people's interaction in this thread.

A person who says something terribly depressing (a downer), typically only tangentially related to the present circumstance or topic of conversation, and thereby destroys the positive atmosphere.

I mean it fits to some participants in this thread, no?

I have read the whole thread, and that post did seem to come off as saying that anyone who had something negative to say about them is a "debbie downer". But I am sure he didn't mean it that way.

Although I have no GAS for a fEARful, I'm seriously considering building a 15/6 just to see what all the buzz is about. If anything just to have an opinion on them

If it's just to check 'em out, you may want to build a 12/6 instead - it's way easier, cheaper, smaller and loud enough to piss off alot of sound-guys :-)

You should play through one, perspective is a nice thing to have.

fookgub is in your town and owns a 15/6. He hasnt been active here for a bit, so I dont know if you can easily get in touch with him. Worth a shot though.

jepp80 is also close to you and he has a pair of 12/6's, he is also more active on site.

Don't have one, though I've heard they're great. Just pointing out that the most likely people to bother clicking on the thread are going to be the fEARful owners, and even so the number as of this post is about 18% of respondents own one; I'm sure the total % of TB members who actually do is a fraction of that. Hard to expect that any one brand is going to dominate the bass world with even that much market share.

If you're looking for one standalone cab, I personally wouldn't be happy with the 12/6/1. On it's own, it's not enough for me.
ymmv, etc.

On the other hand, if you can swing two cabs, I like the 12/6/1+12 sub better than the 15/6 on it's own, as the taller rig provides better personal monitoring for me.

+1 on this for me as well.

I can get away with a single 12/6/1, but that is in a reasonable volume situation. There is some level of "mojo" when you go to the second woofer set up as well.

That's why I'm 90% sure I'm going with a mirrored 12/6 stack whenever I have the funds to order the kits. I like the flexibility.

I don't tell people that they will " love " a bass cab: it's too subjective of a topic. Try it if you can, if not, take a chance, but no guarantee you will " love it ". The stupid names like Debbie Downer, Negative Nancy, etc. are , if not insulting, then condecending , imho, and only add fuel to fire. You don't see it that way, fine. I do, killer.
