Do you use fEARful?

very true. Most bass players on the planet have never even heard of TB.

I know its true, but I am not quite sure how that is possible. Every bass related google search I ever do results in a Talkbass thread being on the first search page. Its not just google using my browsing history because is also the case with my work computer that has never logged into Talkbass because my work server wont let me.

thing is a lot of players don't care about forums- would rather play instead of surf the internet, buy gear based on their guts, don't care about what others think etc. I know a lot of great players who have never been here.

(snip)I think it's really tough- fearful players LOVE their gear, and the premise is that it's BETTER than anything else available

Better? No, I don't think I've ever believed that fEARful cabs are better than *anything* else. I haven't even actually tried anything else. But, I've always known that they are 1. darn good. 2. handle a lot of power. 3. I know exactly what parts are going in there. 4. They are really good parts. 5. I can make 'em myself. So, I just skipped over the years of trial and error, and gear trading, and re-selling, and went right to the top. Maybe not the very top, but purdy close.

Better than anything out there? No idea. I would have to play everything out there before I could make that call.

I can say they're better than anything else I've ever tried. I'm a good two dozen gigs into these cabs and I still can't get over how perfect they are *for me*.

"Fan Boy"?

You better believe it.

I'm sure these cabs are great, but "value" is quite subjective so it simply can't be true for everyone. ;)

Right but that is like arguing that a buying a pick up truck for a dollar is a better value than buying a Bugati for a dollar. Depends if you are selling it to a farmer, or race car driver. They are going to have different needs and thusly different values.

That said, I dont know of any mass manufactured cabs that come close to what the fEARful's do, and not at the price point either.

Tone is subjective, but volume, depth and clarity per pound are not. fEarful (and a few similar crossed over, multi-driver cabs based on high-end speakers with long x-max) beat all comers in those objective categories.

Just keep this thread bumped to the top of forum so more bass players see it and finely vote - in a few years or so, the poll should reflect a more accurate account.

On a side note, this TB forum is the golden egg for FL builders - I bet/think they sell/get most of their orders directly from this TB forum. :bassist: Personally, I never heard of FF/FL until after reading this TB forum and I seriously doubt that I would have ever of heard of them otherwise. So it's a good thing. :)

I would agree with this and if your goal is to be able to monitor your tone in such a way that you have confidence that your DI signal run through the PA flat will be heard the same way by your audience, the fEARful is your best bet.

If I don't use a fEARful, I make sure to have a microphone on my cabinet, otherwise all my tonal decisions are irrelevant to what the audience hears. FOH engineers seem to love it, regardless of which way I do it, but that's a function of my tonal decisions being effective. So, I look for the most effective way to communicate them to the audience.

Good point. I read all about fEARful both Talkbass and the source forum. I've made my own bass cabs and payed people to build my bass cabs with pretty good results. I knew what information I was reading for in both forums as I combed for learning about fEARful cabs. I was aware of the mistakes I made in both my own builds and hired builds. I wanted some cabs that would correct for those mistakes that I made once and for all. I chose fEARful. I sold off all of the other cabs. It was not inexpensive to hire a builder but it was worth it. I took a leap of faith and ordered a 1515/66 build sight unseen and untested by me - so far so very good. Let me harp on that for a moment: fEARfuls are awesome. Now, I've got 3 great fEARful cabs built by JHawk Customs. And the FF/FL designs are still improving and diversifying - science at work.
(only sweet grapes from me)
Bump.

Do people still have to build or have someone build their fearful cabs? That negates the "value" aspect right off the bat for me if so. If folks are handy, then these certainly do seem to be the thing to own/build and there is value in that, but that value is limited to those people. I remember when Epifani was it. When Bergantino was it. Now fearful is "it".

Can't be everything to everyone and it fills a niche the same way the Acoustic cabs at GC do. It's all on who deems it a "value" I suppose,

I usually don't run through our PA, which carries mainly vox and drums. My LDS 15/6 is for the bar gigs a hobbyist like me plays- this is low brow stuff. However, I can tell you that the LDS 15/6 will fill any venue a 410 will fill, as loudly, deeper and clearer than any 410 I have tried. Under my M9 that box filled a 300 seat hotel ballroom (my biggest gig) with ease, and no PA.
