Indeed! I believe he was playing a RATM tune at the time, which explains the additional aggression.
To answer the original question...
No, my son doesn't play bass, but he is the reason that I do.
I started out on guitar back in the 70s (in high school). I got to be decent enough to play some Van Halen or Randy Rhoads solos note-for-note, but would never call myself a great guitarist. Good, above average, but not anything more.
Fast forward a few decades...when my son turned 10 he developed an interest, so I bought him his own guitar and showed him the basics. Within a few years he had surpassed my skill level, and then continued to take it even further. Not to sound like a bragging parent, but he could play ALL of Randy Rhoads' stuff flawlessly, and was light years beyond me. So, I figured I'd pick up a cheap bass and we'd jam or lay down some tracks for him to solo over, and I ended up becoming enthralled with my new choice of instrument. In the 10 years since, I rarely even pick up the six-stringer anymore.

My 11yr old at his "first gig" last night rockin' the SS jag! He has had several concerts over the last two years with his UB, but this is the first time the music director let him play his BG. He was pretty excited, and unlike most of us bass players, he did in fact impress all the girls.

I only wish. My son doesn't listen to music PERIOD, let alone play anything. There is a scientific term for a person who has no interest whatsoever in something (IE: music) but I cant remember the word. He literally doesn't listen to anything. I will occasionally get in his car and the radio will be on, but he says it's only to have the noise, not because he listens to it. It's hard even to get him to come to hear me play some places. I really can't understand it. I cant imagine not listening to music. About the closest he gets to doing anything musical is to do any soldering work I need done. So there's that...
