Do your kids play bass?

My son grew up seeing me on stage, at festivals, weddings and other events and he noticed that on occasion I'd get free meals, drinks, kindness that wasn't offered to the general public.

I always make a joke about it, but it's true - the way I made my kid a musician was, I told him directly: "Don't touch my f'n guitars."

When he was a 8 or 9 he could already rock out.

My son is now 19 and we have recently started playing in a band together.
(performing Grateful Dead Music - it's called "Ted & Company.")
We have our first gig at the end of March.

I started this thread cause my FB feed fed me a memory of my kid doing his best McCartney impression...

Do you play music with your kid(s)?

No kids.
Yesterday at the jam, a kid band played three Iggy Pop songs, and they were amazing. Guitar 11, bass 13, and drummer 12. After the band went home, their drummer stayed and played the last hour. I queued him thru a bunch of classic rock written well before he was born, and he did a bang-up job. I was so impressed.

Our son has had drum and piano lessons, but he didn't stick with them. I taught him some guitar and music theory, but he lost interest. Now he wants to get back into piano, which is cool. He has the fingers for it.

Cool stories!

Not here - I’ve got a teenager that has dabbled in a few string instruments, has retired from playing piano but is a pretty good vocalist - like playing around with my PA and vocal FX. I’m hoping for the day when she comes down to the studio and asks me to show her some stuff....

My youngest son, Hunter Robinson, is quite the bassist and guitarist. He went on the road with my older son Ben for a couple years as his bassist, and used to double with our band P-51. And actually, Ben filled in more on bass more than a couple of times with the Trop-Rock band I used to play with. Hunter's waiting on us to put together another band. Ben is currently playing guitar with Preacher Stone. That's Hunter in this video playing one of my old Foundations.
