"The eyes" had it for me - great touch - and a second on screen with just the eyes but conveyed a lot!
The scenes between John Hurt and Billie Piper were great - I thought she put in an excellent performance.
TB was a lovely bonus.
Moffat was a star.

Still trying to get my head round how/why Tom Baker showed up as the museum curator...

I think the implication is that he's a much older, retired Doctor who's taken Four's face. There's been talk that The Doctor can, to a degree, choose his own face when he regenerates - Moff has stated that Capaldi's previous appearances in the Whoniverse (Fires of Pompeii, Torchwood: Children of Earth) will have a bearing on why Twelve will look like them. So maybe he chooses Four's face at some distant point in the future. :)

I stopped trying to wrap my head around anything on this show ages ago. I just watch and enjoy. I think the reason Tom was the curator is because we, as fans, wanted to see him again, in some way involved with the show. It was a love letter to us classic fans, and I sure did appreciate it.

Tom was the best Doctor, but he was on a lot of episodes with questionable looking aliens/monsters and special effects. His stories and acting were far better than anything on the new show. If they had the budget and technology of the revived series, no one would even try to claim somehow Tennant was the best Doctor.

Tennant was good. So were ALL the others. There are no bad Doctors. But Tom took it to another level. He WAS the Doctor. He didn't PLAY the Doctor.

Tom is getting old, and walks with a cane. He can't ever be the Doctor again. But he was an embodiment of what the Doctor could be like as a retiree.

It was fantastic.

SPOILERS ALERT!!!!!

I had called it. When Moffat had said Smith was the 13th regeneration, i figured he meant ten having had two. And Clara is an alright companion but dammit the last person the Smith doctor should have been with was Amy! Even if she was there in his mind...
