My issue with the Doctor-Amy-Rory dynamic is the fact that it's almost as if the writers, for the longest time, were intent on making Amy's true romantic interest ambiguous. I don't know if that should bug me or not but it does... Unless it is actually leading up to something how about not giving Rory reason to suspect that he isn't really the man Amy wants when he is.

I suppose that is part of what they feel they excel in, keeping the viewers guessing. They're usually pretty good at that.

Two and a half series is pretty good tenure for a Doctor Who companion - Rose only got two, and Martha and Donna only got one (although they all got cameos in later episodes). Back in the classic era, even the most well-known companions only got relatively short tenures - Sarah Jane Smith and Jo Grant only got three series each, Romana got two and a half series (in two different incarnations - incidentally, RIP Mary Tamm, the first Romana, who passed away recently) and Leela only got a series and a half.

I like Rory's character - he's probably the character who has changed and developed the most in recent Who (closely run with Donna, but she was only in it for one series). The whole "last centurion" storyline made sure of that. It also allowed the Doctor's romantic spotlight to change from the usual regular young female companion to the older and much more mysterious River Song.

Agreed on everything except River Song. I like her as a character but I still dunno what to make of her relationship with the doctor as we know him now. Up until the end it seemed more like they were old friends rather than them being romantically involved, honestly.

Personally, I wish Sexy (I still love that name!) would've stuck around for more than a single episode. Next to Rose, who got an entire two series, she just seemed like she could bring the most to the table in in terms of an interesting romantic relationship and to the story in general.

That was kinda the point... for most of the fifth series, Rory was kinda threatened by the Doctor. But then, during The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang, he showed his true colours and went from bumbling, awkward and somewhat hen-pecked to a proper hero character who was an equal to the Doctor in Amy's eyes.

Yeah, I get that but it still bugged me, lol. Partly, because there wasn't much build up for Rory. He's just kind of left pondering by the wayside for a good bit of the season and then BAM, question answered. I guess it was just weird for me to see it play out the way it did.

These are all good points. My problem is I can no longer receive BBC America on my cable. It happened a few months ago. I'm going to be increasingly in the dark when it comes to what is going on with Dr Who. I haven't decided what to do yet; I'm sure I'll come up with something.

There's plenty of other ways to watch Doctor Who in the US - iTunes gets new episodes as they're aired (legal), you could download them from a torrent site (illegal), or you could use proxy software like TunnelBear or ExpatShield so you can watch it on the BBC iPlayer (technically illegal but common).

This is the greatest show on tv IMO....
I had to vote for Sylv cos as bad as his stories were, he did the best he could. Sylv & Sophie were my heroes in high school lol Ace kicked ass!!
I had them both along with John Levine in my bus to take them to the sci if sea cruise 5 yrs ago. Sylvester is awesome, Sophie is awesome....John gave me a tip lol
So 7th & Ace for me. Oh Sylv asked me my favorite ep but I said I hadn't watched for awhile but my son liked ghostlight...Sylvester asks if I ever figured what it was about, I said no...and he said he was still trying to figure it out.

I like Matt Smith, Dave Tennant & Chris Eccleston(no E!) ....Chris was a great PTSD Doctor, I wish he got another year but it was in the deal he'd do just one. Dave, I love his Doctor and that it was his dream since a kid to get the role.
I love River Song....lol....if there was one supporting character I could hang with it'd be her

I've been watching the show since 3rd grade (I'm 41).
Really enjoyed Eccleston, and Baker, but voted Pertwee as when I was a kid, I got to hang out with him at a convention, very funny old horndog.
Baker was a drunken horndog...

Trust me Rory is a decent companion, now Turlow or Adric on the other hand.....

Been a fan as long as I can remember, both classic and nu-who. Pertwee's my fave, but Matt Smith is stunning in the role - easily the best Doctor since Tom Baker.

The last season was a mess though, the obsession with plots twisting throughout the series completely got in the way of stories. It nearly got to the point of me giving up on the show. However, I think this is being rectified for the next series.

I'm currently revisiting all the old classics on DVD. I'm on The Talons of Weng-Chiang at the moment. Love it!

Troughton was great - Matt Smith has said on several occasions that he modelled his Doctor on Troughton's Second Doctor, although Eleven plays football, not the recorder. :D Seems all the actors have a favourite - David Tennant modelled his Doctor on Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor, and he ended up marrying his daughter. :D

@Stingray2112 - it's been back on TV since 2005. The seventh series of the "new era" begins in a few weeks. Not to mention that next year is the show's 50th anniversary, and lots of big things are planned. :)

Sylv was awesome in the part, especially later in his tenure. The Seventh Doctor was actually quite scary sometimes, kept a lot of secrets and was very manipulative. Ghost Light, Remembrance Of The Daleks, Dragonfire and Silver Nemesis are all classics (although the less said about The Happiness Patrol and The Greatest Show In The Galaxy the better).

He's also said many times that he'd come back for the 50th anniversary. He still looks much the same as he did back in the 80s, so he could pull off portraying the Seventh Doctor again. I hope they get all the living Doctors back for it, although Tom Baker's looking rather old these days (he is 76, after all), and Colin Baker would need a wig and a girdle. :D It's a shame that Eccleston seems to have no interest in coming back, still, I suppose he's a busy Hollywood guy (just heard he's scored the part of the main baddie for Thor 2). I'd also love to see Paul McGann back at the Eighth Doctor - the TV movie was mostly awful, but he played a great Doctor, and he's been brilliant in all the Eighth Doctor audiobooks.

(yes, I'm a complete Who nerd - I even have DW-themed tattoos... ) :hiding:
