I had to vote for Sylv cos as bad as his stories were, he did the best he could.

A lot of the stories from his last two seasons were pretty good. Even the ones that seem really dumb.

For instance, "The Happiness Patrol" (which has one of the strangest villains ever, 'The Kandy Man')

... despite appearances, the story was comparatively dark.

I voted for Baker, as he was my Doctor growing up... but I've liked all the Modern Doctors.

I didn't like Eccleston at first but watching some of them over again on SYFY re-runs, he really did a good job bringing the Doctor back.

Tennent was great but I really like the way Matt Smith comes across, that Mad Man in a Box treatment, kind of on the edge, then boom, a jump, a joke, the scowl again, and the bustle about asking for Jammie Dodgers, and it moves on, really brings some of the edge to the role, and reminds of Baker at times...

Because of this thread, I decided to watch a Colin Baker epi. I had never seen any of his doctor at all, for some reason. I decided to watch the very first one he did, "The Twin Dilemma." I enjoyed it, and enjoyed his portrayal of the Doctor. Then I read reviews, only to find out that the fans consider it terrible in just about every way. No matter; I tend to like any episode of the show from any era, because it's just a cool show.

Then I remember, through reading some fansites, that I had never really seen much of the Tom Baker episodes with his future wife Lalla Ward, as Romana II; time lady, after a regeneration.

So I watched HER first episode, "The Destiny of the Daleks," and though, "wow! That Colin Baker episode PALES in comparison to this! Tom Baker! Daleks! Lalla Ward!" only to find out that most fans consider THAT a weak episode.

So my conclusion is, most "fans" are actually "wankers."

Both shows were very enjoyable, and now I plan to continue digging up episodes.

Anything I should be looking for, in particular? Any episodes of ANY ERA Doctor Who that you really liked, and feel strongly about? Or the absolute WORST of the WORST??? I will try anything. I love the show that much. No matter how bad the writing; the sets; the acting; the direction; WHATEVER, it's still a show about a guy who travels in space and time in a Police Box that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, and if it's Tom Baker era, loves jelly babies.

When I was a little kid in the `80s I would watch Doctor Who on PBS while my dad did sit-ups in the living room(an odd memory ,I know). I used to be so afraid of the Master that I would hide to one side of the TV so he couldn`t "see me" thru the set. That Doctor was Tom Baker(must of been re-runs). To this day I love scarfs like his.

Last year I found out that the show was still on. I was so excited and filled with nostalgia! I like Tennent and Smith,maybe David a bit more between the two.
I can`t wait for the new season!!

I think David Tennant is a stronger actor than Matt Smith, but I think Smith's Eleventh Doctor is better written than Tennant's Tenth. The writing has been better and more consistent during Matt Smith's tenure, with Steven Moffat as showrunner.

That is definitely one of the best. The only two I liked better from Baker's era was "The Robots of Death" and "The Deadly Assassin".


If you don't mind long ones, the 7-part epic "Inferno" is amazing, as is the 10-part "War Games".

It was a good one, and a great introduction to Davros. One of Tom Baker's best. I've got to put a good word in for The Pirate Planet though - loved the Captain character and his laser-sporting robot parrot since I was a kid, and you can't go wrong with Douglas Adams' writing.

A big +1 for Inferno - my fave story ever. Pertwee's first season was just incredible, DW as Quatermass with a good dollop of body horror thrown in. Very adult in lots of ways.

In a way it's a pity they changed styles so much the following season, not that it wasn't still a great show but one wonders what could have been had Liz Shaw stayed around a bit longer.

Inceidentally, Caroline John, who played Liz, died very recently, as has Mary Tamm (Romana). A very sad time.

I'm saddened that no one seems to acknowledge Elisabeth Sladen's passing April 19th of last year. I'm 53 and it brought a tear to my eye. I can only imagine how I'll feel when Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg pass.

It starts on the 1st September with "Asylum Of The Daleks".

More or less every Who fan acknowledged Lis Sladen's passing with great sadness. This image from Dork Tower was all over the internet that day:

She is greatly missed. A few Who companions have passed away in the last couple of years - not long before Lis was Nicholas Courtney (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), and, more recently, Mary Tamm (Romana I) and Caroline John (Liz Shaw).

Supposedly, it's September 1st, but it hasn't been added to the BBC's broadcast schedule for that week. So it may change.

Cool. We also did the 'Crash Of The Elysium' interactive walk through experience in Manchester. Got the heebie-jeebies when when we got chased by Weeping Angels. Needed my daughter to give me a slap
