Donna...she had a few good moments as well but I kind of found her annoying at times. It's almost as though the character was being "over-acted". meh, I dunno maybe it's just my pickiness.
Catherine Tate made her name as a comedy actress playing OTT characters in sketch shows (for example) before the Doctor Who role came along. Consequently many people, including myself, found it difficult to accept her in the role without subconsciously expecting her to lapse into some sort of grotesque character!
On the other hand, Billie Piper pretty much came from nowhere - other than a failed whirlwind marriage to Chris Evans and a one-hit teeny bop pop record - but surprised many with her maturity and elegance in the role. Eccleston and Piper were a great pairing.
