DOD FX25 user questions - new to envelopes

Hello everyone,

So my brother in law was nice enough to give me a DOD FX25 envelope filter. I've been playing with it and I understand the controls, but my questions have to do with the behavior. For those who have experience with this pedal, any insight would be appreciated. I'm playing on a p bass with flats.

• I have to crank the sensitivity past 3 o'clock to get the envelope to open playing finger style, and that's plucking the strings pretty heavy. If I slap and thump it opens up easily, generally starting around 12'oclock. Anything below 11 and I can barely get it to open no matter what I do, whether it's using a pick, strumming cords, slapping, anything. In your experience, is this normal for a passive bass?

• When the envelope is closed, the tone is nothing like my standard bass tone, but rather it's really low and way muffled with the notes living way down in the sub frequencies. I'm guessing this is normal operation for this pedal and envelope filters in general?

Yep, sounds like the pedal is working exactly how it should. you'll get the best results by learning to adjust your playing so it opens up the filter the amount you want.

Awesome, thanks for confirming this! One more question...will the pedal react differently to round wound strings vs flats? Or is it simply a matter of volume?

The volume sets the envelope reaction, but rounds will be brighter so the amount you want to open the filter might be a little different.
