Seriously, though. My dad just got out of the hospital yesterday with a gnarly staph infection in his face. We haven't always gotten along, and still, in a lot of ways don't. He spent my early childhood dealing drugs, and the rest of it finding ways to not be home as much as possible, and is still one of the most selfish people I know. That being said, I called him yesterday to tell him that I loved him, that I was glad he was out of the hospital, and happy fathers day. Sometimes, what we need, is an excuse to be nice to our parents, and father's day is that to me.

Valentines day is BS IMO. I can tell my lover how much I love her whenever I want to.

But with parents, especially with most fathers the son doesn't walk up to his dad and says "I love you dad, I owe you everything." Father's Day lets me do this, and to my stupidity I missed the chance this year.:scowl:

Screw that, I'll let him know how I feel tonight. Even my friends envy me for having a father like him, I should let him know how lucky I am to have him more often.

I want to see a day for single parents. That's got to be one of the most difficult jobs/situations out there.

Theyre called 'Fathers Day' and 'Mothers Day'.

I saw a jpg online yesterday that said "Happy Fathers Day to my Single Mother".

Hallmark invented every holiday.

Nah dude. Fathers day just gets tougher after Dad is gone that is all.
So make the best of it when he is here. I see the point of the OP and I do think it is a good attitude to show respect everyday, which is a great point as well.
But having a Holiday is cool too.
But yes indeed spend time with that old man, or patch things up.

Otherwise as far as this Hallmark stuff, well heck if they can just make up Holidays, Then Lets make up are own Holiday.

Bass Player day, where you get a new instrument cable, speaker cable and fresh 9volts. ....I dont know something like that.

Fater's day and Valentine's day are ok. Mother's day is a crock though.

My father passed away many years ago. We had a good relationship and it is nice to have a random day in the spring to reflect on what a great guy he was and the impact he had on me and my family. This year was my first father's day with a baby of my own and despite the fact that my wife treats me like gold on any average day, I still spent yesterday feeling like the king of the world. It's different when the shoe is on the other foot, I guess.

My kids made me some very creative and sweet home-made cards. My 13-yeard-old got me a vinyl record (The Black Keys - "Thickfreakness"). My wife got me a simple card and 6 tix to the Dodgers game. My family and two of our good friends enjoyed an afternoon at the ballpark. I had a few beers and a couple of hot dogs, and caught a foul ball. As a dad and husband who spends most of his time taking care of everyone else, it was great to be able to do some activities I enjoy, and share them with the people I love most. For me, it was a perfect Father's Day.

Mother's Day is about my wife and the things she enjoys.

Valentine's Day is about celebrating the relationship between my wife and I and doing something romantic together. It's not just about her, but about both of us.

It works for us...

Of course it's stupid... and pointless... and a waste of time and money.
