Does anyone cut their own hair?

Trying to save some money, never cut my own hair before. Is it worth it?
If you do cut your own hair any suggestions on tools or technique? Any suggestions on what hat I should wear until I learn how to do it right.

Have little to cut at 63 years old. Wear a ball cap when playing. Now if I can convince my wife that all the money we have saved is enough to buy a new Stingray 5.

I have been cutting my own hair for 30 years.
I use clippers with a #1 guard, which I believe is 1/8".
It didn't start out as a money saving thing, more a time saver.

So Anyway, I cut whatever's left of my own hair.... Remington clippers 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 guards.
The good news is you can give yourself a haircut any time you need one.
The bad news is you have to walk around looking like you gave yourself a haircut.
If you've got a nice head of hair, pay the devil his due and go to a barber.

Yes. I've been doing it for years. I always let it grow out to 3" or more on top before I cut it. I started doing it when I would go out on the road playing in the early 2000s for two and three weeks at a time.

Standard issue Wahl brand trimmer you can get from Wal-Mart.

I use the graded (slanted) piece for over each ear.

I use a 1/2" guard on the back. There's a "line" around my head where I roll the trimmer out to sort of "fade" to the....

3/4" guard for most of the top of my head.

1" in guard in the front.

It starts off a little short. But it grows quickly. And I usually let it grow quite a bit before I cut it.

I haven't paid for a haircut since about 2001 or 2002. I'm on my second trimmer and I think I paid between $30 and $40 bucks for the trimmer, guards, case, cleaning brush and lubricant all in a set.

Mrs.Fingers usually checks the very bottom of the back to make sure I did it straight. Usually she only has to touch up a tiny spot.

I have done it so many times I can do it by feel. In fact, in warm weather I do it outside with no mirror so the trimmings just fall in the grass and I don't have to clean up any mess. I might have to lean over the sink and touch up a spot or two once I get back inside.

I tried but it looked like I had a prison haircut, or at least that's what my dad said when he saw it.
As for tools? A good set of clippers and a bowl. Every six months just give yourself a first phase haircut, then use the bowl and clippers for the next five months. Hey, it worked for Mo.

I owned four hair cutting shops for the last decade and got my hair cut by whoever would get tired of my grey hair looking "shaggy" and insist I sat down for a few minutes.
I don't cut hair and never did, but I cut my own...I just take a #7 guard on the Remington clippers and do my whole head over the bathtub, takes three minutes.
I clean up near my ears with scissors and when my wife gets a chance she cleans up my neck with a "Peanut" trimmer.
I'm lucky to still have a good hairline at 59 years old, my Dad and two of my three brothers became very follically challenged pretty young.

I have a weird phobia about barbers so I cut my own hair. Always hated going to the barbers, barbershops and barbers creep me out. Don’t know why.

I like to think the “stylist” in this video has no idea what he’s doing. It’s almost like he was a cook and the president of Pakistan walked into his restaurant and said: “You will cut my hair”.

“But, this is a tandoori grill, your excellency!” The cook said in protest.

“Nonsense”. Replied the president. “You have comb, therefore you must be a barber. My aides will film the process on wide angle for Youtube and you will become well known throughout the world for your barber skills. You’re welcome.”

The rest is history.

Also in the Summer. When I was single I did it myself with a #2 guard over me whole head. Now my Wife cuts it for me. We start with a total #2 and they she does the sides and back with a #1 for a little contrast. We also go outside with a lawn chair.
