Never owned a 5 and probably never will. To me they seem like an extra bit on a normal bass. So it's probably all just perspective.I learned on a 5 string, and am most comfortable on a five. But I LOVE playing 4 strings, I feel like they’re so fun to play, and I tend to play differently and even write more when on a 4. But sometimes it almost feels like buying an incomplete instrument when getting a 4 because you can’t hit certain notes used in so much modern music without screwing up your tuning. the low D and Eb especially. I think this feeling stems from when I had gotten a Rick and Aria pro ii that I adored and joined a band and they asked “hey do you have a 5 string?”.
If you're happy with an instrument then be happy.
