I just got a bass 2 weeks ago (Peavey P-Bass)
And awaiting the delivery on a Hartke Hy-Drive 112c.
I wish I had found This forum sooner so i could ask before purchasing.
Anyways i would love some input on the Hartke sound
I/ve always been intrigued with the aluiminum cones.

HELP A BASS NEEWB OUT!!!

I've been giging with a Hartke HyDrive 410 for the last year. I love it. Hartke has excellent customer service. It is not unusual for Larry Hartke to chime in on the forum's here. Really good guy.

Before the Hartke I used a MESA Powerhouse 410. That was a great cab as well, deeper voicing, but it weighs a tick under 100 pounds in a bigger cabinet. The Hartke does everything I want and then some, weighs 30 pounds less and is in a smaller cab. Makes it real easy to gig with. I don't miss the MESA at all.

I'm so new to Bass but not a new musician I've played guitar on and off since around 1987. I've spun techno and wrote that style music on my Roland 303 ect ect.

But about a month ago a friend called me and asked to barrow my P.A. (Crate 8 channel head driving 2 Yammaha 15's+Piezos)
Cause he had a guitarist bassist drummer and singer coming over.

While the bassist was taking a break my bro and the drummer where just jamming ,so i asked if i could try the bass,
And WOW its like my fingers went from a cramped up compact to this luxiourious caddilac sized fret board . It just spoke to me...


I hope to :bassist: the bass one day and any input would be cherished :D

I used XL series cabs throughout the late '80's & early '90's with GK & SWR heads. THE sound of rock for the that time frame. Weight only became an issue because I got old, the cabs never got heavier it just felt that way a decade later. :D

OP; get yourself a used GK RB series head, add a second matching Hartke cab and you'll be able to cover everything from country to old school metal.

Playing bass is fun, no two ways about it.

I heard two bassists using Hartke 210's with the aluminum cones within the past week. Both guys swear by them and they sounded great from where I sat.

One of them told me he had another 210 at home and uses it when he needs more volume.

I've owned the top of the top not only of amp/cab, but basses as well.
One of my all time fav cabs is the Hartke 2.5XL.....like previously mentioned, the downside is the weight.
IMO, one of the best sounding, but always over looked 210 cabs out there. Mainly because people hear with their eyes and not their ears.

Here on TalkBass, it's sick how much that is really the case. Stick with what YOUR EARS tell you. Not a name plate or headstock.

I picked up a cheap peavy Milestone with a split percision p-up in it.
I dont know if this was a good choose or not but it was cheap and in mint condition. I figure if i stick with it i can always upgrade to
a better axe or add more p-ups .

Thanks everyone for the input my amp is suppose to arrive tommarrow :hyper:
