Does anyone know what Dirk Lance is doing now?

Make Yourself was the album that led me to Incubus, and I bought it WAY before "drive" exploded everywhere, I listened to morning view but it grew tired very fast, I heard 5 minutes of the last album @ the local FNAC and and it didn't clicked at all, too bad I really liked them, SCIENCE was great :hmm:

Allright, I want to bump this.

The latest news on the STICKMAN sight is from January '04. Does anyone know if Stickman is still going, or what Dirk's doing at the moment. Also, all the games on that site are pretty old..
Incubus did some music for Halo 2, but it wasn't related to Dirk.

By the way, all those bashing Incubus, especially about the money thing, that's pretty damn hipocritical. Especially when the gaming industry is worth more, and that's where Dirk went to.
I love Incubus, I must say that I did love their older stuff better, and when Dirk left, something did feel like it was missing. But to completely bash the band is pretty out of line, they are still different sounding than anything else out there. And some of the songs like Megalomaniac are pretty kicking.

I agree though that they just arn't the same.. In every aspect as well, but especially with songs like a certain shade of green.

Also, quit the bashing of Kenney, sheesh..

Well, it sounds as if Stickman isn't doing so hot after all, even though the concept was a good one, apparently their business plan and model are not so good. They have an office but neither Alex nor his partner show up to work out of it, and all the have is someone that goes over there to pick up the mail. We'll see what happens...maybe Alex will be auditioning for other bands.

Yes, it's called progressing. Real bands grow and develop their sound as opposed to releasing the same record time and time again, which seems to be what you all expected of Incubus. I love all the Incubus albums, and I strongly disagree with anyone who thinks they lost quality over time. As for that nonsense about them selling out? Well that's just typical close-minded bull**** that I would expect from hormonal teenagers. Just because a band tries something a little different from what they normally do, doesn't mean they've sold out. Think about how long they toured S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Fungus Amongus, playing the same songs at every show for months/years, wouldn't you want to try something a little different when it comes to the next album? Changing their sound is a pretty big risk for a band, they could have lost all their fans and made no money, does that sound like something a group of money hungry "sell outs" would do?

You're all entitled to your opinions but I wish some people would just think before they type

If you listen to fungus, then enjoy, then science you will see the progression is leading towards one of the best hard rock/experimental albums ever. Image the suprise Incubus fans received when they got Make Yourself instead.

I saw Incubus at a small venue in Sacramento 2 or 3 times around the time Science was out. I remember hearing Brandon denounce MTV and make fun of it. Image the suprise of an Incubus fan to flip on MTV and see them hosting a consumer electronics show right around the time Make Yourself was getting big. By that time I think Brandon had cut his dreads and shaved all his facial hair. And all the songs had gotten shorter... And more melodic... And they had fired Gavin... etc.

So there is an obvious difference between selling out and progressing. Personally I see nothing wrong with what those guys did. If I had the skills/looks/connections I would try and do the same thing. Those guys are probably set for life financially so throwing money away on a failed video game company might not be such a big deal.

Becoming more melodic isn't necessarily synonymous with a loss of substance and integrity. There are always people who will call bands sell outs when they start to reach more people. Just because the last three albums are different to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Fungus Amongus does not mean they purposely tried to make it more popular. Also, am I wrong in assuming that bands who sell out become no different to everything else on the radio? Incubus still have a sound of their own, they still play approachable music with very good musicianship like they always have.

I love all Incubus albums.MOrning View is my favourite right after SCIENCE.Something happened......THEY MATURED.You have to remember when they recorded fungus they were like 18 max.

I think the new stuff is great though.And with the 24 minute rock odyssey they are showing good signs!

Well said. Reading some of the posts in this thread made my head hurt...

Their newest album isn't my favorite, but I can at least still recognize great musicianship. Back when "Make yourself" came out Incubus did an interview in which they said the direction they were going in was to focus more on Brandons actual singing, and to play music that complimented it. The fact is, Brandon Boyd is an insanely talented singer, and they would be stupid not to utilize it.

People need to shut up about the whole "guitar player playing bass" bull****. Ben Kenney is a musician, and a damn good one at that. He can play drums as well...check out their live at red rocks dvd. Here's another fact...he probably owns 98% of you at bass as well

I just viewed the new Incubus song/video, and can anyone say a total rip off of Audioslave! I mean it's the exact same format and approach, even Ben's distortion is a copy Tim's famous sound. At any rate, the song was pretty good, and actually Ben's playing was quite decent and much better that what he offerred up on a Crow Left of the Murder. Just thought I'd update for all you Kenney fans.
