Does anyone like the EA Micro 300?

I ran version 1 which had to be 25% or more underpowered due to the 'bad cores'. I reported that it ran a Wizzy Mline all night outdoors in 90 degree Miami heat and got the job done. That night I used it with a 5 string bass in a 'Hendrix style' power trio...we weren't silly loud, but moderate. No PA support, only for vocals. I ran it to the point where the pre and power lights flashed. All other gigs I used it for were kinda quiet acoustic guitar/drums/bass settings in a 20' x 100' bar. Although one night, with the Wizzy 10, that room had hundreds of people in it and many right in front of us. Still all the gain I needed on the amp...a second W10 would've been nice!

The latest one I have I believe is the final version that Gary wanted on the market. It's a honey. More gain and it might be THE best sounding amp I have for DB (my ultimate test of accuracy in an amp.) Naturally, this amp is more at home running 4 ohms. I will be trying it into 1 or 2 8 ohm NL210's in a few weeks.

I purchased one recently but sent it back in only a couple days. It had a very audible buzz anytime the amp was on that came through the cabs and it even sent it through the DI to the house. (It wasn't a ground, bass, cord issue as I changed everything and it made no difference as to whether anything was plugged in or not.) I left several messages at EA with different people there and no one has yet to return any of my calls. Maybe I got one of the first ones, I don't know, but I was not impressed. For the price level that this amp is in, I would have expected it to be quiet and the customer service to be better. It's too bad because it really has alot of great features.

I had an early one, they fixed it promptly. My new one is a champ - no issues. I also noted in another thread that I think it might be even better sounding than the Markbass LMII for DB. Of course, the LMII plays louder and has great BG features. But the Micro 300 is 2 channel and a lot smaller.

I "patiently" waited for mine as EA went through its release/recall/re-release issues. I also have the WZ110. The combination sounds great with my Birdsong BG. Lightweight and more than plenty loud enough. I have found that if I plug the rig into some outlets I get a buzzz and if I plug it into others it is dead quiet. I know that that sort of issue arises with other amplifiers, too, and I do not know if the Micro 300 is more, or less, sensitive in this regard.

I get a slight buzz with my two Micro 300s, but I've also gotten a similar buzz with other nice heads- where it's being plugged in may be a reason- I'll have to try plugging it in upstairs :) Either way, the buzz is quite low and quieter than the fans I've had on most of my heads, and I really dig my two little 300s. Lots of options on them, particularly when you get into the trim pots and adjustable jumpers.

I am very pleased with my Micro 300. I did return the first unit, which was part of the batch that had the faulty power supplies. While mine is not silent, the slight buzz is no louder than my other amps. It is my understanding that EA is working on improving the Micro 300 to make it quieter than it is now. EA's customer service is first rate in my book!!! About one month ago, after playing for our Pastor Appreciation ceremony at our church, the other bassists could not stop talking about how great my Cirrus 5 Bubinga/Walnut sounded! One played a Ken Smith 5 with Jazz pickups connected to an SWR amp and a 4-10 cabinet and the other played a Fender Jazz 4 connected to Carvin amp and a 4-10 cabinet. I was playing through my iAmp Micro 300 connetced to a Schroeder Mini 10+ L. They could not believe the sound that was coming from my tiny rig! Jorg is THE MAN, his cabinets are THE BOMB and work very well with the Micro 300!!!


A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste! :cool:
