Does anyone make a B15 in a pedal format?

linden plus this

Power amp distortion is what it does..

This Spanish.. But closer to what I was thinking.. You want.. Linden eq to voice it right.. If you could show us an example.

That's closer, evidently it had more than one setting after all ;)

I'll definitely look into this box a bit more.

This is the BIG problem with people making demos and recording direct into their interface. Most distortion pedals, especially when driven hard, are made to give a nasty sound IN COMBINATION WITH A CAB!

So you would at least have to have an IR or something on top of your direct recorded signal.

Bought it ;)

Happy Holidays!
Awesome. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on whether it ticks your boxes.
I really like mine. But I also like my Arkham Zephyr, Monique, PF50T all for different reasons.
Curious to read what your listening tests come up with.

Certainly looking forward to it myself.

I may do a recorded shootout once it arrives, seeing as how I already have a Monique and REDDI on hand...and I don’t really need to keep ALL of them...

Yeah, I’d like to hear the shootout and your thoughts on how close it gets to the B15 sound you have in your head. Updates!

That would be very cool...I'm looking forward to you sharing your results.

To be honest I don't know a lot of about Broughton and that Messenger Pre looks pretty interesting (sorry I don't mean derail the thread).
I will make a crosser over thread and link it this one.

My general questions on the Broughton Messenger
BROUGHTON Messenger questions and (DI comparison) JDV & Basswitch

The "magic" of the B-15 Portaflex is all in the fact that it is a grossly underpowered amplifier for bass guitar. The original versions were 25W and 35W. Fine, I suppose, if you are playing in a low volume jazz combo or the like, but completely inadequate for modern rock and roll.

I can't imagine being able to really capture the sound of an overworked B-15 in a pedal, because the output section, transformers, and power supply have so much to do with the equation.

That being said, I would love a B-15 Heritage for any low volume gig, and I'd never overdrive it.

When I first started playing bass, I borrowed the drummer's brother-in-law's vintage Portaflex. It could not at all keep up in my early 90s shoegaze/dreampop band, but it was what we had, after our original bassist quit and left with his Fender Studio Bass 200 W combo.

At the very first opportunity, I bought a used Trace Elliot Series 6 and a Pearce cabinet, and never looked back.

I haven't read through all pages so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet or not but Jule Potter has a pedal coming out at this years winter NAMM. May be worth checking out or contacting him about.
It looks there is trend with warm pedal and devices this year at NAMM. I’m stoked

SansAmp original (not the SansAmp bass DI). It hasn't been made for years, but used ones are floating around. I've referred to it as a "B-15 in a box." It is truly my secret weapon for bass, especially for recording. I originally was turned onto it years ago by Mitchell Froom (producer) and John Hanlon (engineer for Neil Young and others). I still use it probably more than any other pedal.

Taking you back to the first few posts, but I would suggest trying the Analog Alien Bass Station, you may well find the tone you are after is in there.
I love mine and I have grown to like the super bright paint job!

Hopefully, you should be able to try one in a local store without spending any coin.

Post by @Eublet about the Tone Hammer, which I have used with great results as well.

"Here's another trick about the TH that I use a good bit. I'll scoop the mids ALL the way out around 750 hz for a rock tone. With the Bass/Treble boosted to around 2 o'clock, this is very similar to the "Fat Tube" setting from the BDDI manual. But the cool trick is instead to cut treble and bass back. I'll set bass to 11 or maybe 10 o'clock, and cut treble all the way back to 8 or 9 o'clock. The result is a very warm, lower-mid dominant tone (because the upper mids and lows are cut back so far), with a subtle, understated top end. It's very B15'ish and sounds awesome with a P bass or jazz with flats. At this point, if you want more depth, rather than boosting the bass, you move the mid frequency knob clockwise, which pools out upper mids and articulation. If you want more of that, then you move the knob counter clockwise to bring those upper mids back into the tone. The highs and lows stay the same, so it's an easy way to adjust your tone on the gig to get more/less articulation in the mix."

I gave this a try with my TH 500. Listen to the sound clip and see if it's in the ballpark of the B-15. I haven't played through one of those in a very long time. I'm playing a Fender AS P with Chromes and a Fralin standard wind. The TH 500 is DI into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Here's a picture of my settings for all you visual learners.

FWIW, I have an Acapulco Gold (1st edition artwork), and I've never gotten it to sound as good as it does in the second video. The fuzz is brittle and harsh and the only way to tame it is by pulling volume going into the pedal.
