Does anyone make a small outboard fader pack (hardware) for controlling DAW's virtual faders?

Those look like very short-throw faders, no? I was hoping to get 100mm faders so that I can execute subtle nudges without having to then go into the DAW and edit what I just wrote. But feature- and form factor-wise that looks like the ticket!

just something that allows me to draw intuitive fader changes without getting hung up on the visual geometry of those curves.

This. I make it a practice to turn off my monitor a lot and just listen to mixes. Too much visual input impedes my critical listening

Man, something like this would be AWESOME for the VisiRemote app I use at church solely for my in-ear mix. Right now I have two iPads in front of me- one oriented horizontally for tracks/stems/click and another oriented vertically for Planning Center's Music Stand and for VisiRemote/VisiListen to control my in-ear mix from the board.

I HATE using iPad sliders to adjust the sends in my in-ears. Oh well, I'm not sure how we would integrate something like this.

I've got 3 of the old Mackie units, 2 with 8 sliders and 1 with rotary knobs. Have not had the time to use them for years. And now? I probably don't have the desk space anymore either

It is interesting in my opinion on how the "big old gear" is slowly morphing in some case towards the M. Slate touchscreen approach.

Hmm I guess they are, although I’ve never noticed it being an issue for my uses.

Anyone have experience integrating fader interfaces with old DAWs?

I’m using Logic PRo 9 on my non-networked MacBook Pro, which does what I need.

I assume control interfaces all have drivers that need current OS?

on a Mac? they don't have the drivers AFAIK. well, some had back in the day, but I believe nowadays most use industry-standard protocols and don't need drivers. my fader doesn't.

some have HUI, some have MCU, both protocols should work in 9, but at the end there might be some bugs.

I recall, Presonus was fixing the firmware for the OG FaderPort to work good specifically with a Logic 9, so your best bet is to try one from a store with a return policy.

Not only are they short-throw, they're non-motorized.

True, but not relevant to my particular use case, as I only need a gizmo to input automation moves; so long as the Latch/Update function in my DAW is working properly, I don't need the hardware to reflect/represent/mirror/playback already-written automation moves.

Yep. If it's a one-time writing pass then motorization would be a non-issue. Trying to write automation moves with such short faders would be a tough sell for me. I'd love if Presonus (Faderport) or Icon Pro Audio (P1) would update their single fader models to have full-size 110mm faders like on a large format console, but 100mm is fine for simple automation moves where you don't need a ton of granularity.

I have a Nektar Impact 49+ midi controller, in Mixer mode it supports 8 tracks and a Master... the funny part is that I was pretty excited when I got it thinking that I would use it primarily to control my DAW. In reality I rarely use the sliders to control my channels (they are not motorized but do map). I do use the transport controls quite a bit. It comes in really handy when I'm holding an instrument and want to start recording. The keyboard comes in handy as well, super easy when I want to use a Midi instrument.

This Panorama Controller might fit what you're looking for... again not motorized

Just saw the previous post... ++ for Nektar products. I use Cakewalk and Nektar maps without any issues.
