Does Anyone other than La Bella make Strings for the Fender Mustang ?

I string up my CV Mustang with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Medium Scale 45, 65, 85, 105

Cool to know. I thought they'd be too short. Where does the tapering point rest, in relation to the nut?

You can see the taper on the "A" string. Its 1-3/4" from the nut. The "E" taper is the same distance so it's barely wrapped around the tuning peg at all.View attachment 7166257

A word of caution and clarification for the OP...

DR actually calls it "short scale", although their winding length of 33.75" qualifies them as "medium scale". Just don't go searching for "DR Medium Scale".

That is correct. I should have said DR short scale which by any other manufacturer is medium scale, for the most part.

Bass guitar strings , the La Bella's $ 45.00 !! When you guys say last for years , just how many years ? I just started on Bass and just a back porch picker . Thanks

$45 is a very fair price for a high quality set of bass strings. And flats typically last for many many years. I just got a set of 5-string Dunlop flats that cost me $80. Lots more metal involved in bass strings than guitar strings, and they're harder to make correctly. But bass strings rarely break, esp. flats, and because the outer wrap doesn't let the dirt and sweat in as easily, they can last for well over 10 years if treated well.

Fender uses the 9050L on the JMJ Mustangs. That said, most reviews I have seen dislike those strings and end up going with the La Bella set. I have the La Bellas on my Mustang. Will not use anything else on that bass. Great set of strings.

That's weird. Not sure I've ever heard anything bad about 9050. And IME they're quite awesome.

Plenty of threads on Mustang JMJ owners switching to Chromes or LaBellas. I cannot comment on the 9050. They just seem to be a less popular option for the Mustang bass. Noting less popular does not necessarily mean bad.

I've had the same set of La Bella's on that bass I'm holding in my avatar pic since like 2010...I wish I aged as well as they did

Your best bet is the T.I. 324 Flats. They are actually made for medium scale - hence the 32 in the part #. They are incredible on my Medium scale Jaguar bass, although they also sound great on my Short scale Mustang PJ, but completely different. On the MS Jag they are punchy and so clear and defined, due to the higher tension. On the Mustang PJ, they are thick and so close to the LaBellas. I highly recommend the T.I. (Thomastik-Infeld). They are not cheap, but you will never need to change them.

There are a few other strings made for Medium Scale as well, but if you want flats, the T.I.s are the way to go.

Yeah, tbh I have them on a normal long-scale Jazz bass.

on my Mustangs I've tried:

1) Thomastik JF344
2) D'Addario Chromes ECB81M
3) Fender 9050L
4) La Bella 760FL MUS
5) GHS Precision Flat 3120
6) Pyramid Gold short scale

what can I say is that:

1) Thomastik are what we all know, modern sounding flats with strong midrange in the upper side of the mid-register. low tension, flexible,

2) Chromes are bright and scooped, with strong highs and lows

3) Fender are bright and strong on the hi-mids, less on the low mids

4) La Bella are thumpy with zero sustain (the E string handles an octave note and dies ), and after a while they makes the bass sound like it has the tone closed

5) GHS P flats are strong on the low mids and tight lows, woody tone well defined in the mix,

6) Pyramid are similar to GHS, but with less hi-mids, so they mud a bit.

my favourite are the GHS, and the least the La Bella. I couldn't use them in a band, unless I used a pick.

La Bella makes strings for my Squire Mustang Bass , it is through the body so no short string will work . I want Flat Wounds , La Bella 760F-Mus
$45.99 will work and I have checked every string maker including Fender thinking at least they would make a Flat Wound strings for their own Mustang Guitar as
their prices are at least $10-15 cheaper than La Bella's . I could try medium length Flat Wounds but then you have to trim the silk ends and if there is to much string
you end up not having the silk around the peg where is should be tapered , any ideas or is La Bella it. ? Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't run any labella string they-body. They're a fragile string IMHO. I use their low tension flats on my Fender Musicmaster (not thru-body) …they sound and feel great.
