Does anyone own a famous Bass?

In 1993 I met a local guy who had a Jetglo Ric once owned and toured by Geddy. It still had the strap on it. It was the first time I ever held a Ric and I was not impressed. The action was very high. But still, It was very cool to have seen and noodled on one of Geddys basses!

I own one of John Paul Jones' Manson 8 string basses. He used it to tour with Diamanda Galas in 1994.

I don't, but on this topic it's interesting to note that Brian Barrett over at Lakland JO4 is selling the Lakland JO4 that Adam Clayton played at the presidential inauguration in January 2009.

Is it "famous"? Depends on your definition of fame--the general public could care less about nearly everything that we TBers obsess about. But regardless of your opinion of either the president or Adam Clayton--each a divisive figure in his own right-- it certainly does bear the aroma of history, and it's pretty cool for that reason alone.

It's not the same bass. The one that Brian is selling doesn't have blocks and a matching headstock.

Not a bass, but I own one of Dave Wakeling's (English Beat) lefty Vox-style teardrop guitars.

very cool//saw him 8 years back as general public although he played mostly English Beat songs... I got there earlier enought o watch sound check..he had 3 vox's on stage with him.

During the opening act..I shook his hand and said " Thank you for providing the soundtrack to some of
my favorite memories.. " very humble guy

I once owned Jack Daley's (Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone) Guild Pilot bass in the late 80's. Jack engineered our album back then. Great bassist AND engineer!

I wouldn't be surprised if many owned a bass previously owned by John Entwistle. I just watched the 2006 documentary "An Ox's Tale" and in it he states that his collection would be about 250 guitars and basses at a time but he was constantly buying and selling. He even said it got to the point he would go into his music room and open a case and not recognize the instrument!

the relativity of "famous" is most evident in the fact that I don't know most of the "famous" people already mentioned in this thread

one of my friends back home was playing for a local star (who represented us on Eurosong once, so he was "big", hehe) and I bought his Lakland...

"famous" is always relevant just to some people... hell, even my band was famous in a very limited sense, hehe

so unless someone is hiding Funk machine at home, it's almost not worth posting here...
(and even Funk machine fame is probably limited to a very small number of people, heh)

Not specifically a bass I've owned, but I did help Victor Wooten pick up Stanley Clarke's 5/8 size Italian upright in it's flight case when he bought it. At the time I was the friend who lived closest to him with a minivan. He bought it at the same time he bought the School Days Alembic (which I've played but of course don't own).
I did have Roscoe Beck's massive Mike Stevens 6 string for a month but in the end passed on it. It's happily gigging in Florida AFAIK.

I own a Mosrite owned by Bob Bogle. Bass is practically falling apart and it came with a letter of authenticity from his wife. Its somewhere at my mother's house (was bought as a gift for my dad who was a huge Ventures fan and was only $1200 at the time)

My P-bass is famous because I play it.

I have Nazareth's Hair of the Dog album that Manny Charleton signed for me, but I don't think he was their bass player. Come to think of it, I don't really think he was even Manny Charleton, rather just some stoned guy in the bar. But I believe Roger Glover was one of Nazareth's producers or studio mixers.
