I own Lee Sklar's 1994-1999 Dingwall Prima, one of Mike Porcaro's Status Empathy basses (the actual one he used on a tour), Randy Coven's custom Fodera, Mike Brignardello's (Giant) custom Dingwall, Ken Lawrence's own (and first) Brase, and our own Tom Bowlus' ex (Prima Artist) (sorry Tom, I can't stop teasing you over that bass )

BTW, I own a 73 Jazz that belonged to T. Kennedy of the "3 Kings" from Nashville.

don't know if this counts, but let three well-known jazz bassists used my 110-year-old German upright when they were in Florida - the late Walter Booker, John Orr, and Santi Debriano.

For Pasta4inch and Matt-77 here's some more info and pics for my Rainsong Graphite Acoustic Electric bass. A full body shot, a head shot (with a nice body on it) and a shot of John playing it in the late 1990's outside the House of Blues in LA. I bought it from Jimmy Haslip a couple of years ago and he got it from John Entwistle shortly before John passed away.
Some background - acording to Rainsong, they made less than 10 graphite acoustic electric basses before stopping production on them and focusing on graphite acoustic electric guitars. This was the only custom bass they ever made and it was made to John's specs. The bass still has the original strings John put on along with a spare set in the case. It plays fantastic, lots of punch, depth and volume for an acoustic bass as only gets better amplified. It's in mint condition and with the all graphite carbon fiber weave visible thru the high gloss coating it's breath taking. The master Luthier that built the bass also did a beautiful Hula Girl inlay on the headstock and a double shark inlay at the 12th fret. Here's some more pics, enjoy:

I wouldn't be surprised if many owned a bass previously owned by John Entwistle. I just watched the 2006 documentary "An Ox's Tale" and in it he states that his collection would be about 250 guitars and basses at a time but he was constantly buying and selling. He even said it got to the point he would go into his music room and open a case and not recognize the instrument!

If you're interested, you should search on Amazon (or wherever) for a book called "Bass Culture The John Entwistle Bass Collection". ISBN 1-86074-593-8.

I have a 1988 Sadowsky originally built for Steve W. Rabe, founder of SWR Engineering. It was used in some of the SWR ads back in the early 90's

there is one of the Ox's basses in use by a TB'er named garethox. and its probably the only one of johns B-1's still in service as hard rock wanted some fancy wall hangers (what a wunch of bankers if you ask me).

I don't know if it's famous or not but I picked up a beat up '60s 'burst P bass in a pawn shop a few years ago...some jackalope went and carved "Funk" in the neck heel with a what looks like was a ballpoint pen. It had terrible action and these cruddy old flatwound strings so I was able to talk the guy down from $500 to $350.

I own Dave La Rue's '87 Cherry Sunburst Spector NS-2 with Kahler tremolo. This was his main live bass as well as the bass on the cover of his Essential Bass Concepts video.

I bought it from a friend of mine who used to take lessons from Dave. It plays and sounds amazing.

Congrats! I lusted after that bass when it lived on BassNW's website for a spell. I was tempted but never pulled the trigger.

Not exactly famous, but this '57 Precision belonged to Paul Goddard of the Atlanta Rhythm Section. In addition to using it to record the first 3 ARS albums before switching to a Ric, Paul also used it for studio and stage work with Roy Orbison's Candymen, Joe South and the Classics IV. I've been fortunate to own it for nearly 30 years.

dang it! i had a crack at buying that bass in like 96 or 97. instead i settled for one of his tube works 410t's.

I have a pick that Joe Satriani threw into the crowd.
Also Ron Carter gave me the cloth he used to wipe his strings.
I used it for a long time on my own bass. It looks like a rag now so I keep it in my closet.
