Does anyone own a famous Bass?

My Ibanez ATK300 was used by whomever was playing bass for the metalcore band, Zao, in the late 90's.

...not really THAT cool. :hmm:

I also have an old DOD Grunge pedal that was owned by Wino (St Vitus, The Obsessed, Hidden Hand, etc.)... but i think everyone in the DC area has/does/will own SOMETHING that passed through Wino's hands...



A buddy of mine owned one of Joe Laly's, from Fugazi, EBMM Stingrays... now, THAT is cool.

We opened for the Chick Corea Akoustic Band in 1990. Weckl had lost his drum mat on his previous date and asked our drummer if he would leave his mat on the stage after we cleared. At the end of the night, by the time we got backstage to pick it up, Weckl had run off with it.

So, a famous drummer is playing with a non-famous drum mat. Sort of the opposite.

I own a Steinberger L2 that used to belong to the late Dee Murray of the Elton John Band. He was my inspiration to learn bass in the mid 70s and so I am very proud to own one of his basses. It has its own shrine in my home. Listen to "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" to hear this bass.

That seriously made my day, dude. I have always loved that song and that bass sound, and I always wondered what it was. Thanks. A small but pleasant closure on one of my favorite little bass mysteries. Quest: completed.

Now, does anyone know what instrument was responsible for the beautifully obnoxious tone on Foreigner's "Long Way From Home"? ). As soon as I find and buy THAT one, I can add a posting to this list!

Barry McGuire of Eve of Destruction fame, borrowed a basic hippie tapestry style guitar strap from me, after his touring van had been broken into, and some stuff was stolen, around 1973-74. He needed a strap for his gig, and I got to meet him as a result. He was a pretty cool guy, and I got my strap back after his gig. I used it of course afterwards and it eventually wore out and got tossed. I really don't think it would have anything in the way of celebrity association value, even if I still had the ugly thing. Only thing I ever owned that had actually been used, at least once by someone with some celebrity I guess. As for celebrity owned basses, I'd love to have the cash in hand if Tommy Shannon ever sells off some of his stable. He's got some cool stuff.

Yeah David, I probably should have said this before, but that's my grandfather. The bass is located at the old Chess Building located at 2120 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago, which is owned by my family. Not exactly famous, but this '57 Precision belonged to Paul Goddard of the Atlanta Rhythm Section. In addition to using it to record the first 3 ARS albums before switching to a Ric, Paul also used it for studio and stage work with Roy Orbison's Candymen, Joe South and the Classics IV. I've been fortunate to own it for nearly 30 years.

I use to sell that guy CD's at Atlanta CD back in the late 80's!

my only contact with a famous bass is having lessons with the drummer from the 70's punk band "the adverts".
he was given a black short action bass by gay advert when the band split and quite often i would use it, just to say that i did!
