I think it's just a matter of the tone, it's not really part of the flavour of music at the moment. People want P-bass right now. Music Man basses are not a "plug and play" type of bass either; they need to be carefully EQed for whatever the playing situation is like

I don’t have one, but I definitely like them a lot and think they are more versatile than we expect.

I'm not sure if fewer people are buying Stingrays now, since the Stingray Specials are priced considerably higher than the standard Stingrays, and I don't recall seeing standards available recently. I bought my SR5 back in 2013 and it's my favorite five string bass I've ever played, keeper for life, but much less expensive than a comparable Special would be today.

I’m gonna try to define this post and bring it back to its original intended form as much as I can. There is no “Literal general consensus.” I deal with legal issues in my professional career daily. So I kinda lost my way when talking in public forums. Realizing that no matter how you try to be light hearted or post something innocent or intend for it to generate positive feedback. I’m making it “public” leaving my assertions up to how the public wants to interpret it.
Because, I'm used to reading a lot of stuff daily. I read things in “context” some will pick out a few words and, interpret it either offensively or non offensively, or in some other way.
So to assuage your request. I’ll explain.
The words “general consensus” and, its colloquial use were intended to be interpreted as: “my assessment from what I’ve been seeing online” {emphasis added}. Thus I further asked “am I wrong” and asked who still uses sting rays {emphasis added}. To ask if I could post my general consensus shows that you did not read my post as intended. Furthermore “trolls” have permeated this post and, something that was meant to be innocent and, the responses were supposed to be so simple is now viewed in a “pejorative” way. Once you get one troll or any negativity on a post. It becomes so subsumed in negativity that logic can no longer treat it. Thus further dialogue on the subject matter is deemed moot.
This is partly my fault that I am ignorant when posting things thinking that it is simple and made plain. It’s like the Bible there’s only one but, it’s interpreted and scrutinized by millions.
So to answer your question there is no general consensus. It is a consensus based off of my assessment as I thought was made clear in the post. Obviously not.
