In general, I don't really think so. Although having 6 strings for this just is and looks silly:

You know how to play it
It sounds good
It's comfortable
You like it

A Bootsie Collins bass would have almost fit in with Porter Wagoners' 1960s style. Bootsie Collins probably would not.
