Does color matter to you??

Have you ever passed on a bass solely bassed on color?? Obviously if it's a screaming deal I won't. But I find myself seriously despising the idea of every buying a sunburst or especially a black bass ever again. So, I'm sure this will get interesting....how important is the visual aspect of a bass a part of your decisions

Finish is somewhat important to me. Tone and playability come first, finish is secondary. Although there are certain finishes I would never want like yellow or pinstripes or some goofy logo or something

I passed on a 70’s P with a checked transparent walnut colored finish for $600 a few years ago. Probably would sell for double that now

It was seriously ugly.

I really don’t care that much, as long as it’s not Antigua. I hate deciding on a color more than thinking about finishes that I don’t like.

I don't go for weird neon and similar colors. And I prefer not to use anything with a gloss black finish (even though I own a bass with one) because it shows finger prints too easily under stage lights and generally looks pretty grungy because of that.

But if the tone is there I won't rule anything out. There's this one certain bass sound I can hear in my head. And I've never found a bass that can get it for me. If I ever do find it however, I don't care if it's spray painted with Rustoleum lime green and fuchsia deck paint and has My Little Pony inlays in it. It will be mine. Oh yes! It will be mine...

The color definitely matters. Tone and playability is usually easily fixed as long as there's no defect, but color? Not so easy.

I've been a black bass guy nearly my entire life, then I got a tobacco burst RD Artist and fell in love with sun/tobacco bursts for a while. Then I went back to black. Then I bought a bright f'ing yellow G&L because it was a super deal and now I love my bright f'ing yellow bass. Color might matter until it doesn't anymore.

Some colors definitely have more visual appeal. Those that don't probably get moved down the list.

But absolutely no matchy-matchy painted headstock and body. Reminds me of those wedding notices where the happy couple are wearing matching outfits - and you immediately know the poor schlub has lost any semblance of independence.

I know it's laughable but I'm looking for a sterling or stingray classic and find myself passing on them over color. I bought my first day and first sterling regardless of color. But quickly sold the sterling really because I didn't like the tone and hate rosewood boards. But it was a tobacco burst and somehow it made it easy. The worst part....only paid 500 and it didn't have a scratch on it

For me, it's like a car: if I cannot stand the sight of it why in the bleep would I spend my money on it?
