It matters to me. The first thing that I will notice in a bass is it's color. If I don't like the color of the finish, I will not test it and therefore I will not know the tone and feel of it.

anything red...I won't play or buy anything red or green...I have taken them on trade just to turn around and sell or trade even if i liked they way they sounded or played. I just can't do red or green

Sure. I've passed on quite a few basses of the same models I have now while I waited for the particular finishes I wanted. I also want my basses in excellent condition, so I've also passed on good deals because those basses had more wear on them than I wanted. But my patience paid off because I eventually ended up getting great deals on basses in outstanding condition in finishes that I wanted.
YMMV, of course, and I agree that playability, build quality, and sound quality are the most important factors. But I also want mine to look the way I want them to look and I've been willing to wait to get it. If finishes don't matter to you, then consider yourself lucky because it's much easier for you to buy a bass than it is for me!
But, I'm not complaining because, as I said, I eventually got what I wanted and am very happy with my small collection.

Of course it does. I don't buy basses "because it's on sale". When I buy a bass, it needs to be perfect, and that includes colour.

My tastes have changed over the years. I started out liking black and rosewood. Now I prefer bright colors and maple. Natural finishes are always great.
Yes and no. I am normally a finish person first and then if it hits all the other points im game, but i just bought a bass online after a 2 year gas hiatus. I have never played it. No stores had one. It came in one color, a 2tsb lol, but it checks all the feature boxes i wanted and its not an obnoxious color. So it went the opposite way this time, although i never played it

I’m forever buying used so color was not a big concern. Apparently it was to a lot of other people as i seemed to wind up with a disproportionate number of used basses with burst finishes and after a while i just got tired of looking at them so now i’m no fan. It’s not a deal breaker if the deal is right, but it’s not something that trips my trigger.
But plain old single color? I’m kinda immune to what others think about that kinda thing or what they might think about me playing something say neon green or passion purple. A friend had an ESP fiver that was female privates pink, body, neck, headstock, everything. I used to borrow it all the time and never gave it a second thought. I had an all white fiver Dyna Bass and had a big pink flamingo painted on the body as part of a radio station promotion. If i have my druthers i prefer deep deep blues and reds, so deep they look black except in really bright light, but since i’ve never seen a factory paint job that color i take whatever color comes on a bass that feels good when i pick it up and let those who think it matters decide what that says about me.

Looks matter. If it doesn't look good, I feel embarrassed to be playing it. Self conscious about it, you know? Regardless of anything else. But, my basses look dope, and play very well. At least, with me playing them, they play very well. Look is the number one thing that draws. Hence, why I dont have an ernie ball, or a warwick. I think they look freaking stupid. Doesn't matter one bit how they play or sound.
About a month ago I was telling someone that I hate white basses and would never buy one.
A week later I walked into a music store in Nashville and fell in love with a white Sadowsky with a rosewood board and bought it.

The interesting thing about color likes and dislikes for me is that it depends on the brand and model. For example, I can’t stand black Fenders, but I love my black MM Big Al and my black Danelectro Longhorn.
Color is the least important criterion. Everything else is ahead of color. (same as with my cars)
Never passed due to color. Wasn't crazy about cherryburst, but it eventually grew on me.
