Does Headstock Appearance Matter To You?

No discussion of headstocks is complete without mention of the mighty Lindert.
I'd give it a big thumbs up, but I think you already did.

I care a tiny bit but not really. On the importance scale to me, it's dead last.

Backside appearance is one of my favorite views.

I think the inline looks better than the 4+1. That +1 literally sticks out like a saw thumb. I like the 3+2 for 5 strings more.
That said, it matters to me, but I plan on getting the Sire p7 5 string, so it's doesn't matter enough. I personally like the Sire shape though.

Headstock shapes don't normally bother me, but there are exceptions....
I think by the time someone reaches a certain age, say 9 or 10, it becomes pretty apparent that people have different tastes and priorities. Except for bass players...bass players take way longer to realize it. Some of them never do. They are incredulous that, for the incredible variety of gear of all kinds that's out there and being used all over the world, that anyone could ever dislike something they like or vice versa. Coincidentally, they are often the same people who throw out that old, tired, wish-it-were-banned phrase, "The audience can't tell."
So we end up with, "Why don't you like what I like? Why do you prioritize something I don't care about? The audience can't tell." To which my replies are, "If the audience can't tell, then how come what I think about what I use matters so much to you? And why are you even up on a stage? If the audience can't tell, you might as well go home."
Strange lot, bass players.
Bass is like cars. Some are so good but so ugly you can't stand with them, even being fine instruments.
I really enjoy a beautiful bass, even when it doesn't sound so good.
If I was going to go for a "keeper", taking into account sound, design, quality and even string spacing and weight, the strongest candidate would be the Pedulla Rapture J5

And I REALLY dislike 5 string basses with P-style pickups. Looks awkard, something doesn't fit any good about P's and 5'ers. And I saw numerous basses with this pickup configuration, some with 2 Precision pickups and even 3.... Arrrrgh!

I haven't seen a tolerable one outside of Fender, Music Man (their basses only, not their guitars), the modern G&L type (with the "hook" on it), and your standard 2-per-side Gibson ones. Therefore, in 31 years of playing bass, aside from Japanese cheap-Os, I haven't ever bought anything outside of a bass from one of these four companies. I don't care how "good" it is. If it doesn't look attractive to me, it's out.

Some Fenders/Squiers with 5 inline they look for me like improvisation. 5'ers basses are better looking wit 3x2 or 4x1 in my opinion.
My only 5 has PJ's. It sounds pretty awesome, but I apologize that I didn't consult you first.
A headstock only a mother could love. An Amazing bass so I learned to appreciate its oddness and Pedigree. It is not a Fodera but built by a a longstanding employee/luthier for himself a while back. Extended B and E strings! I call it the naked Gumby.

Besides the BIG truss rod cover, this is one fine design of a headstock... I noticed the aluminum ( or stainless, who knows... ) nut. Also the design looks like very close to Washburn, i guess.
I had two G&Ls that were awesome sounding and playing basses. Sold them both after a couple of years because I couldn’t ever get used to looking at the headstock. I was getting close to taking them to the belt sander. That’s when I knew it was time to let them go.
