Does Size Matter?

Speaking of size. Has anyone tried or care to try Phil Jones? I could never afford it but the new "The Roadcase" looks intriguing.

Never the less, I will be doing much contemplating and testing in my near future. So far, with all y'alls input, I'm leaning towards keeping my 700rb and getting a couple different cabs to be able to customize for the venue.
I absolutely love their cabs.

Personally, I'd start with the cabs (although I remember the Henry the 8s as being a fantastic cabinet). The difference in lugging a solid state head and a micro head isn't that big of a deal, but moving a couple small cabs vs one really big one is huge. I've got a GK MB500 and Neo 112 for my current main set up (I'm not gigging ATM, and currently working on a piano/bass drums thing, so I don't need a ton of volume). I think, assuming you have backline support at gigs, that either a 212 or 2 112 cabs would be plenty for about any gigging or rehearsal situation. The GK Neos are a ton of bang for the buck

I decided to keep the 700rb and went with the GK neo's because I'll actually get to use the bi-amp for once. I'm gonna miss those 8's Fo sho! Not movin em though.

I'll have to decide before summer whether to go with the 212 or 112. I'm leaning towards the 112 right now.

I spent a lot of time going back and forth on this, myself. The 212 was tempting because it is a lot cheaper than 2 1x12s, but ended up going 112 because I kept my big cabs, and the main goal for me was portability. The 112 is plenty loud by itself BUT I have not used it in a loud rock situation, so I don't know how it would hang with a Marshall and drummer with no finesse. But the portability is amazing. I can carry the head/cab/and a bass in one trip.

I played through a PJ rig at a gig with a supplied backline. I missed the definition of the lows that my Acme 2x10s give me. If I ever return to the UK I’ll be bringing at least a pair back with me. :)

In the understanding I've no personal experience with Acme cabs, I can speak to weight. To me, any trade off in bottom end is more than made up for in ease of load-in. Color me utterly willing to play massive cabs (and even lead sled heads) when I have roadies.

Never having roadies and getting more than a bit long in the tooth I agree fully with you. My Acmes are a bit inefficient but that’s one of the trade offs that have to me made for big lows in a small box. My pre/power amplifier is now sporting a Class D power amp that supplies 1000W into two of my cabinets and 2000 into all four. I’ve pretty much given all my lead sleds away. I can pick up tithe amp's SKB four space rack case with two fingers. :)

As I mentioned above I purchased the GK112 neo.
Now someone offered me a trade for my 8x8 with a Schroeder 112PL 600w. I'm not worried about the financial part of it, but is this a cab that can be used in conjunction with the 700rb and GK 112?

It may work well with your GK stuff, but it may not. Unfortunately, the only way to tell is to try it in a band situation. For that reason alone, I would recommend buying a second of what you have already, as two of a cab you like is a sure thing. No disrespect to Schroeder intended whatsoever. They make fine stuff. It's just one of those things about mixing cabs.

There's a thread next door on this topic. Happily @JimmyM provides the executive summary ^

Ya. I hear ya. It was just convenient for me to pick up a second cab. I'm sure sticking with another GK will be the safest move.

The Markbass Mini CMD 121P Combo, with the NY 121 cab works really well.

LOL. A moment in History. A collector's item. They no longer make em. An 18" Avatar from like 2000. 400 watts at 4ohms and I'm keeping it for keyboards.
