does the JP Pickup combination suck?

Tony Kanal, No Doubt, on the Yamaha PJ. No suckage there. On my Jag SS, the P is always full up and the j is rolled in a bit for treble or more for the mid-scoop.

I just bought a bass with a P/J configuration (Schecter Model T Session).... As soon as it arrives and gets setup to my liking, I will record some iconic tracks for y'all!!

No. It's a logical alternative to needing two basses. Even though the two pickups together may not work as effectively as two singles, the premise of either soloed or a bit of a blend is much more varied than either a P or J.

And finally, a good set of new strings will pump life into just about any bass, especially a Fender Bass.

I myself have a MIJ power jazz bass special, I was actually referring to the fender jp90 model where the p/j configuration is much closer together like the precision pickup is closer to the bridge than normal and the jazz pickup is normal position if not a little farther away from the bridge! I definitely agree with you though I really enjoy my reverse p/j bass!

I play and record with my PJ setup almost ALL the time. But I took the time to find the right combination of pickups for my taste...(I also use a dual P setup)
