does the JP Pickup combination suck?

wohow thanks for all the supplies but that question was more of a catchy headline!

I personally love the JP combination. I know it doesnt suck and it was not my thesis or anything. Just really interested in who actually uses it. I would dare to say that TOP is "mainstream successful", even if Im not their biggest fan or anything. Just came into my mind because there very present right now. Of course no pickup compination "sucks", it all depends on the instrumental environment of the song and what you try to archieve.

Crazy how easy it is to trigger a serious debate here! I knew I would get your attention like this, but I underdestimated the effectiveness of provoking headlines.

You know, it would make life a lot simpler if they'd just leave things where they belong....lol

It didn't last very long which is why I inquired if anybody swears by them. I believe they are the cheapest USA fender you can buy. I think they are kind of cool

Do you know any iconic song? Has a bass with J pickup in the bridge and P in the neck ever made it into a studio? I love them personally but 90% seems to be either J Bass or P Bass (or stingray...). The only "mainstream successful" user of this combinition that came into my mind was tyler joseph from twentyone pilots. Why do we see so few bassists using this pickup combination?

Pretty sure one of the greatest rock bass performances on record was Appetite for Destruction... some piece of crap by 21 pilots is a close second... either way, the PJ setup is viable...

I have a Tony Franklin fretted and I adjust the J pup, which is in he 70's position, downward to get rid of the mid scooped sound and when the P and J are both on it fattens up the P and gives it a low mid bump sound.

But here's a clue: you would have gotten just as many replies with the title "Who loves PJ basses?", except that the content might have been a bit less "defensive" (for lack of a better word).

Is that confirmed? I'm definitely hearing somewhat of a PJ tone on those songs. I knew he used an active deluxe P bass in the studio.
