Does this bass need a tort pickguard?

This is my current No. 2 bass (Fender American Performer P). Although the bass looks good with the black pickguard, I keep thinking about replacing it with a tort pickguard. The problem is because the regular P pickguard doesn't fit with this bass, I'd have to order a tort pickguard made for this model from WD. The total would be about $130 (yikes!). What do you think?

It looks great just the way it is. If it were me, I'd leave it alone and spend the pickguard money on something else.

You should still buy a tort guard for your Olympic white p bass.

Every bass sounds and plays better with a tortoise pick guard.

But $130 for a piece of plastic seems pricey. I'd probably live with the black.

I think because it has the Jazz p'up that Black does look great. Like was already said, a late '70's vibe. Now if it were a straight up P bass then by all means Tort!

I love tort pickguards and have switched on many of my basses, but this one looks really good with the black. I dig it.
