John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin

Allan Woody - Andy Hess - Jorgan Carlsson, and the new guy Kevin Scott,
(he is a freight train waiting to be unleashed) - Gov't Mule

Chris Squire - Yes

Richard Cousins - Robert Cray Band

Otiel Burbridge - ABB

Nick Govrik - Trigger Hippy

Favorite Bands, these are bands I dig, and digging the low end groove is a big plus :D

Allen Woody, another one of my favourites!

There is only one answer for me and it's yes. Black Sabbath and Geezer Butler.

It's really a mixed bag for me...as I'd have to pick a favorite bassist per genre or something, I can't really nail it down to one. It's also a mixed bag in that some bands have my favorite bassist for that genre, but aren't exactly my all-time favorite bassist.

Silverchair - love the band, nothing against Chris Joannou, but not my favorite bassist from the 90s/2000s alt rock genre.
Bauhaus - Awesome band, favorite goth rock band, and David J Haskins has been a MASSIVE influence on my playing. Two favorites right there!
The Byrds - Roger McGuinn may be one of my favorite guitarists, but I'm not a real big fan of their bassist. This is a similar story with The Lovin' Spoonful.
Doobie Brothers - Lotta sentimental attachment to this band (Dad and I listened to them a lot when I was a kid), so there's nostalgia wrapped up in my love for them. Really like the basslines when Tiran Porter was with them. This is another favorite/favorite entry.
The Police - A big favorite/favorite one again. Don't much care for him as a person, but Sting has been a huge influence on my playing and a massive influence on songwriting for me.

There's a lot more, but I'm still workin on my coffee :meh:

Finished that coffee yet? ;)
Yep, The Doobie brothers with Tiran!

I’ve been a music fan my whole life (I’m in my 50s) but only playing bass for a few years, so there isn’t a necessary link. Nor do I have just one favorite band or one favorite bass player.

But they’re definitely related and maybe that’s why I ended up playing bass. For example, there are bands I love that also feature bass players that are among my favorites (e.g., Peter Gabriel/Tony Levin, Yes/Chris Squire, Talking Heads//Tina Weymouth, Tool/Justin Chancellor, Joy Division-New Order/Peter Hook, The Fixx/Dan Brown, Curve/Dean Garcia), but there are bands I love that don’t even have a bass player as a member (e.g., Nine Inch Nails) and there are bass players I admire where the band doesn’t do much for me (e.g., Paul Denman).

So it helps if I like the bass player, but that’s not the whole story.

Talking Heads//Tina Weymouth, Joy Division-New Order/Peter Hook
