Most of my favorite bass players are in some of my favorite bands.
Steve harris -Iron Maiden (the reason I play bass)
Joe Lally - Fugazi
Brian Cook - Botch (best metalcore band ever!) Russian Circles (best post rock band ever!)
Dave Curran - Unsane
...and my current fav, Bill Indelicato - Exhalants (awesome playing and tone)

Steve Harris is the reason I play bass too. Alongside the very simple fact that, in the 80s everybody wanted to be "axe-wielding guitar hero" rather than a bassist... so there was lots of space for a bass player in almost any local band you could pick!

There are a bunch of bands that I really like their music and the bass lines/sounds are a crucial part of why.
Zeppelin -JPJ
Sabbath-Geezer
Jethro Tull- Glen Cornick
Cactus- Tim Bogert
Stones- Bill Wyman & Keith
RHCP- Flea
Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray-Tommy Shannon
The Animals- Chas Chandler
Hot Tuna-Jack Casady
Pink Floyd- Roger and David
King Crimson- John Wetton
RATM & AudioSlave- Tim Commerford
Whoever played bass for Ricki Lee Jones
Whoever played bass for Patti Griffin

I really like Rickie Lee Jones too. Her electric bass man was Willie Weeks (one of my favourite bass players) and upright was Red Callender. Well, that was back in the day.

Willie Weeks mainly used a P-bass but I found the following pic with a Jazz....my preferred style

You can't beat the original line up but the current one before Dave left us was great. I wasn't keen on the Roberts era. JJ has always been there thankfully.
I agree re Roberts...not when he sang the Hugh songs...but do really love the Norfolk Coast album.
Baz has been great and I really love the Suite XVI album...
But
Hugh Cornwell is my favorite...and I love seeing him live playing all the Stranglers songs...with Caroline or Steve on Bass...Excellent!

Also see Straighten out Tribute band if you can...much like the early Stranglers...more than the latest version

Yup, me too...

A few of my favourite bands have my favourite drummers too. Actually, make that the rhythm section. Drummers and bassist...........

DeFunkt - Kim Clarke & Kenny Martin
Tower Of Power - Rocco Prestia & David Garibaldi
ZZ Top - Dusty Hill & Frank Beard
Black Uhuru - Sly & Robbie
Canned Heat - Larry Taylor & Adolfo de la Parra
RHCP - Flea & Chad Smith

Just to name a few

I voted yes, because The Who are probably my favorite band of all time, and John Enwistle is probably my favorite bassist as well. I say "probably" because I don't always have clear favorites, but both The Who and Entwistle have been at or near the top for me since 1979.

Next favorite band/bassist combo would be Beatles/Sir Paul.
