Does your SO support your Bass Playing?

My wife's definitely a type 1. She thinks I'm sexy when slingin' an axe around :) She loves coming to gigs and dragging friends along whenever possible, as well.

Without her and the kids to work for, I probably wouldn't have the same drive to succeed that I do. She knows I mean it when I say that my family is my inspiration.

Yeah, she was very supportive right up until I casually mentioned another cabinet might be coming (sorry Jive). The support faucet does have a shut off valve (and apparently a complex program that takes the value of your gear, the last time you bought gear, and the price of the new gear and compiles the data to decide when to shut off).

Fortunately my wife fits into Category 1.

She´s really supportive and knows that I enjoy playing bass. It´s like a "serious hobby" to me, since I´m not a pro musician and my wife encourages me to do it, coz it makes me happy.
That´s it.

Not so much. She really doesn't care about my bass playing, band, job, or much anything else I am into or enjoy.

6 years together, she has been to one gig, and left after an hour. Then again, I enjoy my freedom so it's not exactly all bad either.

Edit: Luckily, I really don't care what she thinks about it. It's a supplemental income for me, and a hell of a lot of fun most of the time.

My SO supports it. She even bought me a new bass for Hannukah. Awesome. :) To my knowledge, she has only missed 2 gigs that I've played since being with her.

And, she wants to learn how to play bass too, so shes asking me to teach her. She doesn't have a bass yet, but we've gone bass shopping and we have both enjoyed it.

Talked me into going 7-string(as opposed to merely 6)on my perhaps-soon-to-be-completed & shipped fretless. She's also paying for it, despite the fact I have made less than $100 in 27+ years of playing. She just stayed up to help me email some pics of a bass she bought me for my birthday to a fellow TBer, in hopes of trading it for something different- w/her blessing. She is The QUEEN. :D

My wife falls into category 1. She's happy that I'm musical and likes that it makes me happy. She just doesn't tolerate excesive spending for the instrument. If I NEEDED those things, I think she'd just deal with it, but seeing as I'm a guy who just plays for fun when the mood strikes, there's no need for me to do that.

I should add to this that I was reading old emails the other day that we wrote to each other back when we first met, and she was even cooler with my playing (drums and bass) back then than she is now. She was even genuinely interested in stuff I was buying or whatnot. I realized that it's because I bought so much stuff over the last few years (I realize now that it was a waste of money) that she isn't as gung ho about me playing as she used to be. Like I said, she is proud of me and likes that it makes me happy, but is really standoffish about it because she doesn't want anymore money being spent needlessly :)

My wife knew what she was in for before we got married. My bachelor apartment furniture consisted of a TV, 2 lawn chairs, a bed and all my guitars/basses displayed on stands in the living room. After we got married she even bought me a Takamine 12-string guitar for my birthday. We both have our individual interests but don't abuse the time spent on any of them. I think that's one of the reasons I'd marry her all over again... that and the sex.
