I haven't played regular for 25 years now. Back then man I dreamed of the day I could buy my very own sunburst P-bass. Now my playing is reserved for Sunday morning hymns and my trusty old Ibanez does the job just fine. But I been playing around on this site and feel that danged pull again. Came within a hair of buying one from the classifieds here. Well, I went and saw my old friend at the local store and he has an American Standard P-bass, sunburst.. This kids dream. It is $1300.00 bucks and I got no business buying this thing what with raising grandbabies and all. I keep telling myself I am an old man and only live once. I need to be talked down.

Ok...look at the bright side. At least what you're GASsing over is much less expensive than a Fodera or a Wal.

Always gotta keep a positive perspective on these things.

The problem with buying a brand new very pretty instrument is the overwhelming desire to keep it in "mint" brand new condition. It may not get played as much as your trusty old Ibanez.

If you played the P bass and really like it consider selling your Ibanez and making the P your main player.

If you sell your Ibanez you'll "need" to by the P

There's a compromise.

Buy a used one or a Mexi P. No need to blow $1300 on one of the most common basses on Earth. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a burst tort P bass. (Heck I even own a 5 string one.) They are in virtually every Craigslist in the U.S.

considering I've purchased basses instead of paying bills I obviously have no self control... Buy it and play the piss out of it. You most certainly only live once.
A more responsible thing would be to put $200 away every month for the bass. Once you have it all saved up, if u still really want it, find a proper playing one and buy it. If not, take a trip with the grand kids.
If you really have always wanted a sunburst American p, I really say u should get it. In my humble opinion a American p should be in every bass stable. They are a piece of history and if you find a good one you'll never want to part with it.

I'm completely happy gigging my Will Lee. It's a lifetime keeper, for me. But I just bought a Sire Marcus Miller through the TB classifieds (it's on the way) simply because I'd like to see what those are about.

Hey, it's OK to spend a little money on a hobby. Especially if you're an old cat. No further justification is necessary!

Well, I would only suggest waiting for a sale. There's a bunch, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Black Friday, President's Day, Easter, Veteran's Day, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, etc.

In Alaska, you might be surprised...! Only seen one G&L, and a handful of tort P basses. Everyone around here owns a Squier!
