We had two small dogs - Clovis is my current avatar, but they're both gone now. My wife tried to put jackets on them... once. They were small, but were dogs, as much as the retrievers, rottweilers, and huskies they hung out with around the neighborhood. She made the argument that they would 'get cold' which Clovis shot down by heading into the backyard the first time we had a large snowfall, and lying down in it for tens of minutes at a time - he hated summer, and loved winter.
They were my buddies, and we treated them like dogs - so they acted like dogs.
We have friends with large dogs, who are treated like human children - and they act like spoiled children.
