Dominant chord help

hi guys, the other day I was with an alternate bass teacher for my lesson and he taught me this real pretty dominant chord and I don’t remember the shape or voicing or ynothin. can yall give me some possible recs for what this coulda been?

It was for a week-long camp type thing so I won’t see him again but I’ll try out shell voicings, I think I’ve already learned a thing or two about them but thanks

probably a dom7 which is root, III, flat VII. You can invert these as well

Not sure what your level of knowledge is. So, to add to the basics above:
In the key of C, the major Triad of G (G, B, D), or the G7 chord (G, B, D, F) is the dominant. It is called dominant as it leads your ear back to C.

Dominant chords are often embellished with a variety of extensions. Commonly used extensions include:

b9, 9, #9, 11, #11, b13, and 13.

Which extensions that are used depend somewhat on the following chord as well as what the melody is doing.

As to which extensions your instructor used, your best bet is to listen closely to a dominant chord using a variety of extensions and decide for yourself which one was used or which one you like best.

When you use the word “pretty” it makes me think it was a dominant sus chord.

G7sus. Try this voicing above the 12th fret:

E string G
A string D
D string F
G string C

It was a hey check this out.
It might actually be a maj7b5 chord; i remember there were a lot of fourths in the demonstration and it sounds decently close. Maybe I misheard him on the dominant part…
