Yet another reason why I love TB so much... great idea, guys!

I dont have much to offer, but I have:
Pbass pickguards-genuine fender, white came on my MIA and pearl spare
Slightly used strings- dr hi beams, chromes

...and I've got a P-bass pickup set that was donated to me, and I'd be more than happy to do the assembly. I can probably take care of the fret slots as well.

I feel like we should decide on some one who will officially put the bass together, and the people should just ship their spare parts out to that person. So who is it gonna be?
Hey... I dont have anything to chip in at the moment as I only have 1 stock bass and a 15w practice amp. Im getting a fat check from Uncle Sam in 2 weeks and Id gladly donate my practice amp and a patch cord!
I also had an idea that I feel kinda mixed on, but I figgured Id put it out there anyways. There are some charities already out there that do this type of thing, such as Charitymusic.org. They are a legit 501 public charity, and they loan instruments out, not sell them, to low income people to use for a time.
Now as I said, I have mixed feelings because I love the idea of keeping it in the TB community and helping each other out. I guess Im just a little concerned; I want to make sure it goes to someone deserving, and I want it to be fair.
Still, great idea. I'll subscribe to the thread so I can stay in touch and send some deserving person an amp to play their new bass through

Yeah, this idea hasn’t really structured itself yet. I volunteered to assemble the bass from parts and would be happy to do it and donate a gig bag along with the instrument. I have experience building basses and guitars for a large manufacture. My job was final assembly and have done about 500 instruments. I did work in all facets of the construction process as well. So my offer still stands if deemed worthy by the donors.
My vote goes to fivestringdan. I can hand deliver the body, neck, and parts I have. Would't mind helping out with the construction either.

The choice of the recipient will be VERY difficult. Here are my thoughts:
1. Schools or Churches in low-income areas. This way, a student or player could use the bass & then when they leave, someone else could continue using it. I am sure we can find a place that has done this before.
This way, it is easier to justify & satisfy the largest amount of people, since this is a group effort.
Everyone is poor or needy - it just depends how you look at it!

With 52 knobs and 12 bridges.....
A thought, there might be enough stuff to do 2 or more basses....I think a vote to decide who does the 1st bass is in order.
Also, how to decide who receives the bass? And what about an amp? A case? Case Candy?
I have several chrome knobs I can donate (SX - split shaft press on type)
Great idea! I'm broke so all I would be able to donate is a 5-string set of strings. (Stock from Ibanez) If this bass doesn't turn out to be 5-string, then they could be put to use on another donate-a-bass (+1 to making this a recurring event, if people could be kind enough to donate some of the more expensive parts). Or you could just save the extra string (B) for another time. Good to see this type of thing happening! Go generosity!
Ok Guys, So I have been talking with fivestringdan. We are going to get started on the 1st bass. I will bring the P bass body and neck I have to him soon. For those who are looking to donate parts, We will let you know shortly what is needed and where to send it.
Since several people volunteered to do the assembly, why dont we rotate between "assemblers"? This way, as parts are accumulated, one person isnt constantly doing all the builds?
Also, I'm not a tinkerer myself so I have no extra parts lying around but I'd be willing to contribute a couple of tuners or straps or cords or other accessories like that.
One more thought-we MUST have some graphic artists onboard here who could maybe design a headstock decal???

What's the matter with all of you? Since when is putting together a bass some sort of a chore? It sounds more like a privelage to me, since I'd be more than happy (in fact, I would enjoy it immensely) to recieve a box of parts to turn into a bass. This could be a great opportunity for budding luthiers such as myself to learn about assembly and setup.
Sort of a double bonus! A young player gets a new bass, and a young luthier gets practice. What do the fine people of TB think of that?
Ok I have a beautiful 5 string SX jazz body I will donate if that would help. Looks like most of the stuff is 4 string but just let me know and it's yours. It's on my trade list but I will pull it and some pots and parts I have.
