This is great! Posted to my fb page, most of my fb friends are musicians. I just received a new set of upright bass strings, I'll be donating the "old" ones. I wish I knew about this sooner, I have 12 basses and go through a lot of strings. I tend to change them too often, so now I have a good reason to.

I just saw this today on notreble, what a fantastic idea! I've got tons of old sets all packed up and stuffed in a drawer, and now I know what to do with them! I'll have to remember to leave more excess string before I clip them when putting on new strings. Hope some guys down there like 6 month old Roto Swing 66s.

I felt the need to share this story a bit more

Thanks, man. That is awesome.

I know most of our American friends can't go to Cuba but Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc, etc are in the same boat.

If anyone in Canada doesn't want to ship to LA, ping me for my home address in Whitby, Ont and I will send them.

I saw the post about straps and will be sending a bunch of straps to Janek tomorrow too.

Man, I wish I would've seen this thread a couple months ago... I changed strings on 4 of my basses (three 5'ers and my 6-string). I'll definitely start saving my old sets for sure. I've currently only got a couple sets that I'll definitely save for this (one is a set of practically new Carvin/LaBella flats that I swapped for nickels 3 days after getting the bass) and I'm about to change strings on my two main players. I know it's not much, but it's something.

I also mentioned it to Dan Basica, owner of Link Removed and sent him your link. He said he emailed his staff because they do a lot of string changes and never really know what to do with the old strings, so they're going to save too.

I know they're not strings, but I've got a pretty big collection of guitar picks I could send your way too, if you want them. I've got a guitarist friend who goes to NAMM every year, and he handed me a tin with a bunch... maybe 150 (random variety) at a guess?

I think what you're doing is awesome... I'm blessed to have nice gear and can change strings pretty cheaply almost any time I want. If I can help another player put that 4th string back on their bass, man... a few bucks in shipping is WORTH IT.

5sg.

I just spent an hour or so sorting through and labelling strings. I have over twenty sets plus some "singles" to send out tomorrow. I also have a couple of straps to include. Janek, if you don't want anything but strings (e.g. straps) please let us know.
