done with steak from restaurants

I had roast beef at a fancy buffet once when I stayed at a hotel and couldn't leave for lunch. It was better than any steak I've ever had. I would take that roast beef again over any steak, hands down.

Believe it or not, I've even had fajitas at fast food places that were the stuff of dreams. The same place can be hit or miss, but if you get there at the right time (such as the latter part of an especially busy lunch hour) they are perfect.

Forgot about this place yesterday. They have always had an outstanding ribeye. They use USDA Prime beef and age it in house. I'm actually glad I have to drive a few hours to get there or I'd be there way too much.

I bought a huge brisket last Winter & fried up a little each day with different marinades & spices. The Montreal Steak Spice was one of the best!

My neighbors smoke brisket across the street from my place nearly constantly for their dive bar and their catering business. They have it down, but I'm so tired of the smell that I never get it. At one party at a mutual friend's house they brought a bunch of elk pastrami though, and I'd put up with a whole lot to get my hands on more of that.

I know that feeling. We spent a couple months in southern Texas last year. Everywhere we went it was brisket. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it was brisket.
People would invite us over for a meal, it was brisket.
Some of the kindest and most hospitable folks on the planet, but the wife and I were so burned out on brisket we could barely stand the smell of it at the end.

The social aspect is really important to me, for sure.

The thing is, for us the quality of the beef our neighbors are using just doesn't measure up to what we've been getting locally for decades now. For years it was from a pioneer grass-fed beef rancher at the Sat. farmer's market, then we had a CSA for years with one of my wife's best friends. But these days even the local grocery store carries killer products, thankfully. Haven't tried the Snake River Farms products mentioned upthread yet, but they're on the shelves here. Personally, I dig bison more than cow in many cases anyhow, especially for burgers.

I'd rather have one at home.
Local grocers usually have steak on sale..,.... ribeye, t bone, or NY strip for 6-7 bucks per pound.
Best cheap steak I've found is Chuck eye.
At times, I'd just as soon have a center cut ham steak with Lima beans.
Seafood is reasonable around here. Large order of boiled shrimp for about ten bucks.

My last topic went so well that I thought I'd dip into this one.

JMHO, but after having a nice steak at Texas Roadhouse yesterday I feel like the prices we're paying for steak in a restaurant are too damn high & the steak itself had the least bang for the buck.

For the price I paid I could have gotten an AYCE sushi lunch for two.
The kicker is, I could have done the job on the steak at home, LOL!

The sushi is a different story.
at least not w/o some training, which a friend actually did

Anyone else swear off restaurant steak?
or another low-value-for-money item
I think Im going veganese, but when my father was dying, i learned how to cook a fantastic steak for much less djengi than the restaurants and way better too. Secret is a very hot fire, and dont overcook it.
