I wasn't there, but this is what I'd envision the Big Bang to be... and, carrots are 90% water and 10% crunch.

That's a coated acoustic guitar string if I had to guess. The coating is breaking away.

I thought it looked like someone had over saturated the string with Shoe Goo and then let it harden.

my strings were always so nasty. Stainless… throw in some slides… sweaty hands, fast aggressive fingerstyle and it is skin flake city.

Those coated strings are one of the most useless invetion for bass IMO. It promisses you to keep your strings new as they are "protected", but in fact they sound used from the beginning.
