Mr. Klortho,
Are you tellin' me that Wagner did not pen the lyrics:
"Here come the Bride, all fat and wide. Here comes the Groom skinny as a broom."
I learn sumthin' ev'ry day here on TB!
Wow thanks! that must be the long lost other verse. I only know:
Here comes the bride
Big Fat and wide
Slipped on a Banana peel
And went for a ride.
How about LOLA?
There is a bit of ignorance going on here. The piece of music is often called "Here Comes The Bride" but that is not its actual name. It is a march from an opera by Wagner, called "Lohengrin." It also not an instrumental piece - it has words - and none of them are "here comes the bride." You can read more about it here.
I had the Queen version from their Flash Gordon album at my wedding played.
Maybe you didn't recognize it because it's in German.
The next verse goes something like:
"Here come the Bride. All dressed in pink. Open the window and let out the stink."
Wagner's work is filled with lines like this. He was the Weird Al Yankovic of his time.
Didn't they teach you all this in your fine arts studies?

I disagree. I have been to lots of weddings in different parts of the country and the song is always played and not once have I ever seen it refered to by that name on the program.
Once again, ignorance marches on.![]()

Yes it was. And do I even need to say that everyone was fabulously dressed?Seriously, I bet the gig was a blast.
Oy. I'll bet you are the life of the party wherever you go. Do you wear "know it all" on your sleeve or did you save it all for us just this once? Nobody (except you of course) really gives a flying crap about the origin of the wedding march. It has become a traditional wedding march NOW. And I guarantee that no bride ever wondered about its origin.![]()
It's a FUN THREAD about a SURPRISE TWIST at a WEDDING GIG. Don't over think it big guy.
Plus, everybody knows that "I Will Survive" would have brought the house down at a male same sex ceremony. Like, duh.
