Don't Wear Shorts

To those who knock the shorts... Do you dress "appropriately" when you play a wedding or corporate gig? A jacket and tie, longsleeves, possibly a tux if the mood was right, correct? So what is the difference in showing up to a gig where your fans wear, and the scene is, shorts and a t-shirt? Ever heard of a little thing called outdoor festivals? I'm not saying shorts are appropriate for every gig, BUT, neither is a jacket and tie.

Do you mean a festival like this? BTW, not my brother or my band, just some guys that I met a few years ago.

..but, if you think this looks better, then, that's OK too. Personally, I'd rather not see their ugly harry legs, but I won't argue with one of he highest drawing bands in eastern North Carolina.

If I have to get matching outfits to be in a band, screw it.

I was recently reading the Billy Kreutzmann book and he mentioned that his first band was totally 'square'...how did he identify it? "We had matching outfits"

I've worn shorts on occasion in different bands and I've never had another band member say boo. Nor have any audience members or promoters.

The above is not typical for my band - I rarely wear a tee shirt for a gig, and this was not the norm for my guitar player either (thank god). This was an outdoor BBQ gig hosted this weekend by a biker club, proceeds to go to a veterans organization. With the biker theme, I thought my Mercenary Audio tee shirt was appropriate. My guitar players shorts though - ugh.......white socks and Reeboks too. Kill me now. It wasn't even hot - 75 degrees in the sun.

The other violation (music stand) is not ours, that belongs to another band we were sharing the stage with.

Waivers go to beach/surf bands, the "metal" guys, Buffet cover bands and whatnot.

Shorts update. I didn't wear any to Saturday's gig. But after having this called to my attention by threads here such as this, I did keep an eye out to see how things broke down.

-The opener had 11 people on stage. 4 of those wore shorts. one of those was a girl. Does it count if it's a girl, or is it only guys who aren't allowed?

The Headliner (us) had 6 members on stage. 2 of those wore shorts both were males in the age range of 25-35.

Comments I heard from the promoter, the crowd or anyone else about people wearing shorts: Zero.
