I would say definitly go for the Ampeg or Orange 8x10. Loudest rig I have had was an Ampeg 8x10 with an Acoustic 370. The 370 wasn't a super powerful head in numbers but it sure made that cab come to life. I would stay away from mixing speakers I played metal in the past and was much happier with the sound when I went to an 8x10 over the mixed cab option. Of course that's opinion there are many people that love the 1x15 4x10 stack.

We actually play with GK Neo right now.
Two 4x10's.
But its not the sound we want.
It lacks the punch and a fat bass sound.
While still trying to have the clarity.

We wanna try the Royal Blood thingy where they have a clean bass sound and one with effects later.

But for now. We will search for an ampeg 8x10 or build a different rack.
Like a 2x12/1x15 and a 4x10 over it.
But if you guys think an 8x10 will do the work we will for sure check them out!

Your cabs are very bassy, and I would suggest an eq change is probably your best first move.

The ampeg will have the low mid bump you might be looking for baked in. As counter intuitive as it may seem, turn your lows down, and your low mids up.

Dont mix your cabs. The 410 over 115 combo is an archaic tradition, that doesnt actually offer you any benefit.

It's pretty much impossible to go wrong with the Ampeg 8x10 it's a standard for a reason. I don't know how available peavy stuff is over there, but it's hard to beat old peavy quality for the price. As every one else said steer clear of mixing speakers. It can work but isn't really worth the gamble. Plus I find it easier to move a single 8x10 than two 4x10 sized cabinets anyway.

you mentioned clarity and doing the 'ol royal blood/slaves/wombats/whoever did it before them thing; "more is more" when you're in a 2 piece. It can help if the bass amp is just a bass/low mids machine and the dirty guitar amp(s) handle everything else upwards, to avoid phase issues.

+1 on the low mids/810e solution; that's where your 'phat' and a lot of your pitch definition comes from.

I used to play in a heavy stoner rock band and spent some time customizing my rig. I used 2 4x10 Orange Cabinets (powered by old acoustic amp) and 8x10 ampeg anniversary cab (powered by SVT-CL) splitting the signal and running a russian green big muff on the orange cabs. The sound was pretty massive but hauling around was way too much. So eventually I scaled down to just the 8x10 Ampeg cab (SVT-CL) and to keep the bass tight but heavy (eliminating rumble), I had a custom roadcase built around it which included tilt wheels and raised pegs an inch or two off the ground. Having the air underneath made a huge difference with eliminating mud. With all that said, I suggest the Ampeg 8x10 and getting off the ground a bit.

Check out Monolord. The bass player provides all the dirt to their sound. He uses a Rick split in stereo. One output goes to a bass rig with an 8x10" and the other with all the FX goes to a guitar amp with a 4x12". When I saw them live, he used the provided backline. The bass amp was a MarkBass valve amp and the guitar amp was a Laboga 100w. Amazing sound

Keep your cabs, you can ric o sound those puppies! Spend your money on a verellen meatsmoke 300 watt all tube amp head, the meatsmoke dual channel preamp pedal. Or a tech21 dUg1000 head ...

Hello,

Im in a doom band consisting of only two members. We play Doom/Stoner.
So as a duo, we are looking for an upgrade in our bass rack.
So basically we play a mix of OM/Royal Blood/Death From Above 1979/Bell Witch to describe our sound.

I play on a Rickenbacker 4003.
What bass cabs do you guys recommend with this fuzzy genre.

Im looking at a Orange OBC 212 wich have this air tight speakers. 600w. Its on a sale totally new for only 300 dollars.
Im thinking of buying it and have a 4x10 over it. Then buy my head.

Ia that a good enough start?

Or should I just go for a 8x10 cab asap?

We gonna play alot of different gigs, so im thinking its good to choose if we just need one cab, or both of them.
Instead of dragging a 8x10 all over.

But sound wise, "the wall of sound", and the clearity we are after to eliminate mudiness. Do I have my thinking straight?

Do you recommend anything?

I would also love to use my Rick O Sound to get the stereo effect later on.

I messed around with a Royal blood type of vibe about a year ago. Not for my band but I just thought it was cool when I first saw Royal blood and wanted to have fun with it. Used a sans amp RBI for bass the RBI has wet and dry 1/4" outs the dry non effected out went through a series of pedals (nano pog , sans amp gt2, killswitch, radial DI) and then to a jbl eon 15. So I had bass going from sans amp RBI wet to my crown amp and ampeg cab and the dirty guitar like signal coming out of the jbl.

Not quite the same, but I used to run a 600W GK Neo 212 cab. Sucked. No punch. Then ran a Markbass 210 combo (neo speakers) which punched the GK out of the park. Eventually hated the piezo tweeter though. Borrowed a few 410's in different bands after that. Then I used this 810 at one gig...

It was like a cushion gently picked me up and lifted me into the air... like the plushest, softest cushion ever. Soo much headroom! Just effortless.

Ok, enough gushing.

I haven't played 810's all that often but I have definitely moved my fair share. This will sound a bit crazy, but in some ways 810's are actually easier to move than 410's:
1. To move them you just tip them back and roll them. And no bending over required.
2. You can lever them over/into things instead of deadlifting.
3. You can roll them downstairs (I still would suggest a 'catcher' helping below though).
4. Two people are still needed to move it upstairs... but you wouldn't have to do it twice like you'd both have to do if you had two cabs

Greenboy Dually, reaches far enough into guitar territory, easy lug, easy enough to run two. I use equivalents in my sometimes two piece, bass takes lot of rhythm guitar territory even if doing 3 or 4 piece.

Also, Monolithian are awesome using whatever 4x12s/bass cabs are there when they show up. Sounded extra fat with my rig though.

Amp is not on the radar atm. But we will search as soon as the cabinet is done deal.
What head do you think is good enough to get the most out of a Ampeg 810 cab? With alot Doom(!) in mind?
I use some pedals.
A Fuzz pedal with a volume knob and a Fuzz knob made from a local music guy which works very good. Its a prototype atm but I enjoy it!
To that my bass goes in a Holy Stain Reverb, or a Hall of Fame Reverb, a Loop pedal, a Freeze pedal, trough a Big Shot pedal for stereo.
All this trough a Chromatic Tuner. I had the Dark Matter distortion pedal but it was broken when I got it.

I also had the Tera Echo pedal, with Multidimensonal effects. It was awesome, I sold it, but regret it, and need to buy it again.. lol.

The Big Shot will be used later on, when we get another Ampeg 8x10. So we can run two cabinets stereo via Rick O Sound.
We have done the Fender Rumble 500 to match with the GK Neo 410's for the Rick O Sound so far, an crazy as it sounds it worked quite a bit.
But we will see if its the right thing to use two 810's for that Rick O Sound thing.

We are just excited to hear an Ampeg 810 with our setting atm.

I will consider an extra guitar amp to team up besides an Ampeg 810 cab for sure!
4x12 sounds massive enough. Could work with a 4x10 too I guess! Or a 2x12/2x15 (lol)

The most important thing here is to have mye pedalboard right. So the signal is perfect mint before entering the speakers. Im considering getting a Big Muff instead of that prototype Fuzz pedal I have right now. The Freeze Pedal is amazing for Doom! And probably will look for a Delay effect. As mention above, I will also get the Tera Echo MDP pedal again for Delay/Atmosphere ++ Its amazing.

Get the Ampeg 810, sell your other cabs and get a decent guitar amp and a 412. If peavey is as cheap there as it is here try that. I love my peavey gear

SVT 8x10 barely goes any lower than a big 4x12 guitar cab. You don't need lower, but might as well just get another large 4x12 and get the same benefit from the coupling.
