So now Im thinking of buying this, got an deal with the owner.

Its a Trace Elliot AH300 Top. With a 4x10 and a big 1x15.

Its so cheap. And I really think of buying it. Then Sell the 1x15. And buy a Ampeg 8x10 after that.

Anybody have experience with Trace Elliots? Or know about the top AH300?

All the traces I've played (not many/many years ago) have been bright sounding, voiced with a upper-mid emphasis. Not a bad thing, just a thing. That voicing might work well for you in a duo context. Plus the multi-band slider EQ will give you room to shape the tone. The idea of swapping out the cabs for an ampeg fridge is a good one. The cab will have more an effect on your tone anyway.

I am a little late to get to the thread and you may have already found you rig. I am in a progressive Doom band and I use the lower strings a lot because we play some real mellow psychadelic like trippy stuff and I tried using an Ampeg 8X10 and no matter how I adjusted my settings I could not get the proper clarity, everything sounded like overly distorted mud. So frustrating. Using a Peavey single 15 is the absolute answer and Ive got the matching Peavey Mark 3 head witch is awesome and does the job but I find that a basic old school head like my Yamaha B100 gives me deeper low end vintage vibe while maintaining clarity as well. So 15 inch speaker and old school head if you can find one.
