Doom duo

Hello,

Im in a doom band consisting of only two members. We play Doom/Stoner.
So as a duo, we are looking for an upgrade in our bass rack.
So basically we play a mix of OM/Royal Blood/Death From Above 1979/Bell Witch/Monolith to describe our sound.

I play on a Rickenbacker 4003.
What bass cabs do you guys recommend with this fuzzy genre.

Im looking at a Orange OBC 212 wich have this air tight speakers. 600w. Its on a sale totally new for only 300 dollars.
Im thinking of buying it and have a 4x10 over it. Then buy my head.

Ia that a good enough start?

Or should I just go for a 8x10 cab asap?

We gonna play alot of different gigs, so im thinking its good to choose if we just need one cab, or both of them.
Instead of dragging a 8x10 all over.

But sound wise, "the wall of sound", and the clearity we are after to eliminate mudiness. Do I have my thinking straight?

Do you recommend anything?

I would also love to use my Rick O Sound to get the stereo effect later on.

I've been looking into the Ampeg 810 and know this guy that sells one for 1000 bucks. A little cheaper than the brand new Orange 810.

Its all opinion I guess, alot of people say the Orange is better. Some say the Ampeg is better.

I have seen Al Cisnero use the Ampegs tough.

If you know loudness and doom I will for sure listen to you.

I also need to metion I got this insane deal, on a brand new Basson b810b cab with 2000w. For only 375 dollars.... Pretty crazy. Only thing we don't wanna go for that is the loudness if we play really small gigs. And the weight of 103 kg. Which is pretty nuts. But its priceless.

And the other problem will be finding a head that actually runs it. Lol.

I think a ampeg 8x10 will be enough power for the gigs in the beginning..

But how often do a deal like that comes at you? You know..

He should be paying you $375 to haul away that piece of crap. Stay away from the basson.

Around here Ampeg 810's are $500-600 used. The orange might be the better option for you. Can you play through both to see what sounds best to you?

Thats what I were thinking too.
Basson is probably good.
But its whale weight will be a back killer.

I will try to test the Orange and the Ampeg.

I second this. I haven't read anything good about their implementation of the isobaric design.
Not that I have anything against Orange. Big gnarly tones out of their other cabs. I can afford them, I don't want to lift them, and I hate the color orange. They sound good though.

Ampeg is the old standby for stuff like this. The 8x10 is a classic, even if its impossible to move and going to physically hurt you one way or another. An old Peavey 2x15 can work as well. If you have the money to throw around you will never go wrong with Mesa.
My doom band is a little closer to a Candlmass, Trouble, Sabbath sort of thing, so my tone isn't totally fuzzed out. I use a pair of GK Neo 112s and Mesa D-800. Not super wooly, but light and cheap. I'd like a bigger sound, so maybe look at a pair of Neo 212s

We actually play with GK Neo right now.
Two 4x10's.
But its not the sound we want.
It lacks the punch and a fat bass sound.
While still trying to have the clarity.

We wanna try the Royal Blood thingy where they have a clean bass sound and one with effects later.

But for now. We will search for an ampeg 8x10 or build a different rack.
Like a 2x12/1x15 and a 4x10 over it.
But if you guys think an 8x10 will do the work we will for sure check them out!
