Double Bass Double Bass Audition Winners

Theyre hurting. The entire percussion section, some violinists, and now Alex has left, and theyre in a huge load of debt. On the plus side the orchestra still sounds good, and if they can get the financial problems in order and hold a lot of auditions theres still a lot of promise.

Just for the correct info. NYCBO pays $80.000+ for 6 months of work since early 2000s. And weekly pay is 2nd highest in US right behind MET.

I'm not sure I can live on that in NYC.

Regardless, since there are other orchestras on the KPO list with an annual salary that one could not live on in their respective areas (Chattanooga Symphony for example), then why not include NYC Ballet on the list? I'm guessing that KPO overlooked NYC Ballet back in 2001/02/03 because it didn't pay a living salary back then either (approx $40,000 around 2001-2003).

Oh gosh, it's such a slippery slope. Why quibble? Let's just have everyone post any audition success no matter what the level of orchestra. Even part-time jobs hold highly competitive auditions because great players are putting two-three-four-five orchestra contracts together and making a go at it playing in multiple orchestras, so they now have to WIN two-three-four-five auditions! People have been doing this for years in places like NYC.

BTW, I didn't know New York City Ballet salary gained $20,000 in salary over a decade. I think that's great. Just goes to show that the arts are capable of thriving.[/QUOTE]

Actually, it's $60, 225/year.

Thanks for your figure. Now we have three numbers to choose from!!! :hmm:

I quoted the ICSOM Settlement Bulletins, and I stand by their publications for the last two decades. Of course, like many professional orchestras (especially pit orchestras), there will always be over-scale and overtime and off-season payments and moonlighting opportunities, but in keeping with the practice of IM audition adds and ICSOM Settlement Bulletins, I quoted the minimum guaranteed salary. I would do that for any orchestra where salary is a discussion point.

The New York City Ballet Orchestra pays an annual salary of $61,379. Even considering overscale for principal positions or doubling, I don't see how someone could get $80,000 from that.
It's still a great job. 60k+ for only working for half a year, leaving time for other work? I'm not a professional yet, but I would consider that a good position.
