Rule of thumb: the average 3/4 bass is about six feet long with the endpin removed. If you can manipulate the seats so that a six feet tall person can lie down, you can probably fit in the bass.

I have a friend who puts his double bass in a BMW Sedan. The trick is to put the seat down and load the bass in diagonally. Of course, no one else can ride with him.

I used to get mine into my MKIV Jetta.

It was a complicated affair, involving removing the bottom cushions of the backseat, flipping down both back seat backs, laying the passenger seat down flat, opening the front passenger window, and putting the bass into the rear driver-side door - going all the way out the window with the neck so I could slide the bottom of the bass in and position it across the back seat and into the trunk. I could then close all the windows and doors. No passengers would fit.

All that to say, it can probably be done - but it won't be fun or convenient. Especially if it's raining.

Take head rest off passenger seat. Lay both passenger and driver seats all the way back. Place pillow in passenger seat floor. Take bass and load bottom of bass through the passenger side door and rotate over reclined drive seat and reast on reclined passenger seat. Finger board facing up obviously. Lol place seat belt on bass and your good to go! I have done this on my Kia spectra and in a buddy's mid 90s firebird.

No problem, almost any 4 door car will do. Did this in a golf, a Lancia delta and in my late ´69 Mercedes. There´s a guy in Amsterdam who transports his bass in a classic mini with the passenger seat removed. I bet you could fit that mini in a mustang.

This is precisely why I just recently put in my order for a Chadwick Folding Bass. When I'm ready for a new car in a year or two, I don't want to have to buy a car based on whether my bass fits or not - just put in in the trunk or back seat. Woohoo.

Don't know about the years you mentioned but it will fit in a '09 Mustang.

It will, the seat does not lie down too fair. I got one into a '09 without any trouble. The '99-'04's are slightly smaller but their seats lie down further. Try putting the scroll towards the back window. If that doesn't work, you can turn it around and put the scroll where your feet go (just cushion everything). You will not be able to see out the passenger side very well, if at all. GOOD LUCK!!

Wow. A car exclusively for hauling your bass? That's actually a pretty good idea. Has the fringe benefit of being nondescript, and you won't go crazy having to reconfigure the seats, etc., every time.

Me, I drive a Honda Element, otherwise known as the Gear Swallower.

300K on a FORD? I had an old Toyota that kept running after the odometer broke at 323K but we came to expect that kind of performance from those rustbuckets.
